Root My captivate doesn't let me install any ROM

ONI95

Newbie
When i try to install a ROM from my internal sd card it goes to the recovery screen and does nothing else, it doesn't load or anything, i use ROM manager i have tried the rom's download list on the app also, i have left it there for 2 hours before on the recovery screen to see if it just takes time but that's not it.

Get rid of rom manager. Nothing will mess up a Samsung phone faster.

If you can still boot into recovery, flash your roms from there.

How do i do that? When i go into recovery all it says is reboot system, reinstall packages, delete all user data, delete cache data, and format internal sd card. When i watch videos on how to do it everyone else has many more options in there recovery.

It sounds like you're not rooted. You will first need to root your phone in order to install custom firmware. If you wouldn't mind, please go to menu>settings>about phone and list your Android version, kernel and baseband.

Android 2.2, Kernal 2.6.32.9, Baseband I897UCKB1. All my root only apps work fine and with all the features.

Thankyou so much! I flashed a new Kernal (Overstock1.3) and was able to download the ROM i wanted(android 4.0.3) :D

I have the exact same problem and I'm not sure how to fix it. On this thread you said that you flashed a new kernel onto it? If you don't mind could you tell me how that is done? No tutorials that I have found have been useful to me...

Do you have a custom recovery? It should give you "install from sd card", otherwise it sounds like your on stock recovery still.
