My feedback after using Nexus 7 wifi only (2012) model for 17 months

I bought a Nexus 7 (2012) in Dec 2013 it was working well till day the before when it would not start so I took it to the dadar service center in the afternoon, not a happy experience as I had to wait fr an hour to submit my Nexus 7. I just got a call from them just now saying that the motherboard is gone & will cost 11k to change I paid 11k when I bought it from Flipkart and is only 17mnths old even the service guy admitted that it’s in v good physical shape w/o even a scratch on it. Now I will NEVER buy an Asus product again. Seems I fell for some junk. No option of sending an email to asus India from their site. To say I am shocked & disappointed is the understatement of the century. Now I will have to think twice before buying online.

Even "only" buying 17 months ago, at that stage, the device was over a year old and had been succeeded by the 2013 model so was probably no longer in production.

I can understand your frustration at the costs, but it's not as if it was a new device, bought a couple days after release.

I've had mine since release and it's been fine. Plenty of others on this forum have had similar experiences so I'd hardly call yours the norm.

I was given to understand that they were still production then. And just because the next aavatar is available does not mean the older ver has be of poor quality. They were being sold as new, not second hand/pre used/refurbished in our country its easy for manufacturers/sellers to get away with selling anything as new & even at its reduced price of 11-12k is a lot of money who earn money legitimately, ;) For a machine handled so delicately it’s a shocker that the motherboard itself has given up its ghost. Without any ingress of moisture etc. BTW with regard to PC motherboards I had been advised by people in that line to avoid ASUS MoBo’s as the quality AND service is pathetic in my area

The "motherboard is bust" response is probably their first shot. And "it would not start" suggests that you haven't been through many of the tricks that people try when that happens. Just browse around here.

In my case, the Nexus 7 2012 started dying because kit would n ot charge. I tracked that down to a poor micro-USB connector. It cost me about £10 to buy a replacement (from Asia). The repair was simple.

I have used Asus motherboards for 10 years. I usually replace them, or blow them up due to my own stupidity, long before they show signs of age.

Then again, I am one of those people who attaches no weight to statements like "I had been advised by people..." If the people are full-time burger flippers, politicians or bank managers, I don't expect them to be hardware experts.

Thanks for your inputs, would appreciate a link to the ‘tips & tricks’. I did try some which I knew of but they didn't help. I spoke to the engineer who diagnosed this problem and he specifically told me he bypassed the battery & port to check if that was the problem, he advised me to find a chip level repairer who could do the needful as they do only module level replacements. I am familiar with electronic repairs as I used to do that as a hobby when I was fit. The charger I checked at home. Whereas with regards to advisors I agree with what you say but in my case they were h/w engineers for whom its bread & butter & were speaking from experience. BTW being in the s/w industry I always dabbled in h/w repairs when required in office & home.
