Help My Galaxy Nexus died (red light shown)

Looking for help. My Galaxy Nexus (Verizon) died a couple of days ago.

I purchased the Hyperion 3800mAh Extended battery some months ago, no problems were had until then.

Last I remember I had the Wifi hotspot turned on for hours... I was sharing my internet while in the car.

That evening the phone froze, turned off and it won't turn on again. I tried switching back to the old battery, but it's the same result. I just see that every time I insert any battery, the notification light looks red color. After I press and hold the power button, the red light diminishes, the phone vibrates but nothing happens.

Now, the device has turn on after multiple tries, but when it does, it only lasts a couple of minutes, then it freezes and turns off again. I notice the PC doesn't recognize it when I connect it, although it trickle charges. It also charges on an outlet, but the phone doesn't remain ON for long.

When I manage to get the phone to turn ON and I make a phone call, I can hear the other person, but they hear static only. I don't know if a combination of the extended battery plus hours of using the Wifi hotspot killed it.

I have tried removing the battery and the SIM card for hours, but after trying again, it's still the same.

Has anyone seen this behavior? Do I have any hope of saving it?

Thanks.

Yeah this doesn't sound very good at all.

Do you remember how hot the device was when you picked it up after the hours of hotspot?

Otherwise you might want to look into getting a replacement, honestly, this might fall under a warranty or if you have insurance.

It could be the battery. I've tried switching to another battery myself because my phone was dying really fast during the day. From the time I pit that battery in, my phone started acting crazy. So I just switched back to my original official Samsung battery.
