My LG Motion Finally Died

Muilisx

Android Expert
I've had the Motion for about 2 years, maybe a little more, and it finally died on me today. It starting acting weird, force closing everything, boot looping, the whole 9 yards. It's been dropped maybe up to 10 times over the 2 years but not hard drops, but I guess the soft drop yesterday might of did it in. I was going to try to flash it but now it won't even turn on after trying everything, so I took out my SIM, and SD Card and beat the hell out of it outside :D

What I loved most was the 4.5GB of internal space available to the user. Only the high end phones from Metro right now have that much internal space. Everything else is 1.2GB which makes the move to a new phone even harder for me. The LG Motion was hands down the ABSOLUTE BEST cell phone I've ever owned, and I'll surely miss it.

Currently, MetroPCS has 3 4G phones for $29 after MIB, and the Nokia Lumia 529 being the best with its 4.7GB of internal storage available to the user, but I'm not fond of the idea of moving to a Windows based phone so I went with the Alcatel ONE TOUCH Fierce as it has 2.4GB available to the user, and I can live with that for now. The screen is also a inch bigger than the Motion. However, the video is 720P instead of 1080P the Motion had, but that's not that big a of a deal.

Anyway, It was great being part of this section of the forums for the past couple years, and I'll miss you guys.

You know where to find me :)

Read that the LG optimus f6 is $100

$79.99 after MIB, but only up to 1.2GB of internal space. That's probably around 800MB with bloatware which is pretty crappy. Great phone but hardly any space which sucks these days. Unless you root, you can't install all apps to the SD card.

$29 sounds decent for right now. I'll get a really nice phone down the road. I'm in the process of starting a business so until the money is rolling in. The Alcatel ONE TOUCH Fierce seems to be a win. The only con is the camera, but other than that, it seems like something to hold me over. I don't game much at all on my phones so for basic stuff, browsing, music, youtube, ifunny, etc, will be perfect. Also, the Fierce allows you to set the SD Card as the default install location. The Motion wouldn't let you do this unless you were rooted, and only then, you could only move stuff to the SD Card. I'm told with the Fierce you can toggle that so anything you download, will go right to the SD Card which seems like a decent feature, and the phone can support a 64GB Micro SD. Plenty of space.

Mine recently died as well. Insurance replaced it, though. It died because of using a cheap auto charger to charge it. This is the second time it's been replaced, so no more insurance. So I will be selling mine soon for a used nexus 4 or galaxy s2 or something with a 4in or larger screen size. This screen is just too small for me.

I am able to put the new, fully-charged battery into the old phone but it overheats very quickly. I kept it on ice that was wrapped in a towel to keep the temperature low while I backed up my files with Titanium.

The only I can't do is copy Grooveshark's offline mp3s, which apparently were in /mnt/sdcard/Grooveshark. I did a restore of the app+data in Titanium (3.9), but still no go. Btw, the mobile web version of the grooveshark website plays music well, even in the stock browser.

I used a car charger like twice for just a little but but weeks ago, and everything was working fine. I either only used my computer to charge it as it would automatically do that while it was connected when copying files off and onto the phone. If it wasn't the computer charging it, it was the LG adapter that came with the phone. I just think its time came after a couple of years of every day use, heavy use. It probably just gave out on me in my situation.

NY, I'll work a deal on with you on my Like New Spirit with 2 cases and extra screen protectors.

Big ass honkin' screen, no memory issues and your still good to go with it for another 15 months or so with no issues.

Thanks but I ordered the Fierce right after making my OP a couple days ago.

Fierce came today.

Since it's a GSM phone, I could not keep my $55 limited unlimited plan that I had with the Motion which PISSED ME OFF GREATLY! I spoke to a supervisor that a grandfathered plan should be able to move to any phone. It was a exclusive plan. I don't pay the bill but still, just wrong.

After my initial charge up, the phone seemed pretty quick. However, I could not get my data to work. Nothing would work except wifi. I could tell by the 4G up arrow blinking as if it was trying to communicate but the down arrow never appeared to show that the phone was getting a response. I spoke to about 5 different reps. It takes up to 2 hours, blah blah, then one did a reset, told me to remove the SIM, and reboot, blah blah, another 2 hours, and still no data connectivity.

Then, I decided to try the camera out which I honestly should of done from the beginning because the picture mode was nice and bright, not bad at all, but as soon as you hit video mode, or video recording, I don't think the Fierce has two different modes for camera and video, you either just hit the camera button for picture, or the record button for video. As soon as you hit video, the screen would go dark as hell, even with the flash on. The camera on the Fierce just simply SUCKS. The picture mode was all choppy like as if the lighting of the picture needed to catch up to the phone, and I blame that on no auto focus. The Motion had flawless picture and HD video recording.

I ended up speaking to a 2nd supervisor because at this point, I was very upset, not only over the quality of the camera, but I was still not activated on the network after 3 to 4 hours. The supervisor was super nice, gave me a $10 credit for the frustration, and as well as reversed my phone change, and put my Motion back on my account, and put my $55 limited unlimited plan back on my account.

So, at this point, I can either by a used motion, and keep my limited unlimited plan, or buy the F3 or F6 which are both GSM phones, and lose my limited unlimited plan, and go back to the $60 unlimited GSM plan which again, isn't a big deal as I don't pay the bill but still trying to save some money for the person who does.

I would buy one of the standalone chargers specifically for the lg motion for sale on ebay and see if that can resurrect the phone. Not to use the phone, but to salvage things off of it. I am waiting for mine to ship. I have a universal battery charger but apparently it doesnt use the right voltage.

Sorry to hear about this terrible experience. I called in to dealer support @
(800) 373-2876, told them I was not a Dealer, and they activated the warranty replacement lg motion on the 55$ plan.

Are there any Tmobile phones that can be rom'ed or somehow hacked to support wifi hotspot, in the same price range as the motion but with a larger screen? Camera isn't important, and having a large onboard flash (like greater than 3-5 GB) memory isnt important if /mnt/sdcard really is the sdcard!

Love my Motion. It ever survived carening down the highway@ ~65MPH because I left it on top of my vehicle, along with my Note 8.0 A heard a thump on the roof looked in side mirror and there was my beloved Motion sailing through the air...it was nekkid (had the case off to clean& had not put it back on. anyway it finally hit asphalt and flew in 3-directions. Took a long trot back to first piece and a 5-min search to find battery & backcover...only thing wrong was scuffs onthe back! Amazing...oh the Note 8.0? I slide back and wedged between cab & shell so do worry there...

Right now I look at the phones on sale...they are horrible even @ $29/$79. Almost no memory, poor call quality H use phone for work & call quality is very important. I've listened to recording in reviews & only one was OK, not great but ok.

I've been looking at GSM's for BYOD but only a couple stood out...this little darned LG Motion spoiled me...I'll probably endup with a Samsung Note II,LG Optimus 4

If you are in a good coverage CDMA area, I'd say go to Fleabay and look at LG Spirit's.

IMO, that was The Best CDMA for the buck that Metro had. (Still available new at local stores here.)

You can get a decent enough one on Fleabay now for $75 or so, possibly even less if you luck out.

A signal in the hand is worth 2 in the bush. :D If you've got a good CDMA signal now, you May Not have As Good a GSM signal and there's no easy way to be sure (usually) until you switch over for real. Even now, you'd still have at least 12-15 more months left of good use of it.

Don't go unnecessarily looking for a greener signal on the other side of the fence, it May Not be there.
