Help My SGS3 is killing sd cards

kb0sdq

Well-Known Member
I bought a 32g sd card for my phone when I got it. A few weeks later the sd card was dead phone would not even recognize it. so tried it in my wife's phone and nothing. It is made by Lexar I bought it from my local Target store. So I got in touch with Lexar they had me send the card to them and they said it was dead and they sent me a new card two weeks ago. Well today I see a notification on my phone to insert sd card so I check storage and sure enough does not show a sd card installed. so I guess here we go again I will contact Lexar. I do not know if it is the brand or the phone

Hello kb0sdq. Most sd card loss of functionality occurs as a result of corrupted files stored on the card. This is why we see it repeated through more than one card if the files are imported to the new card.

I'd look closely at what's being stored from backup on the sd card.. and I think I'd "start over," in the sense of files/games/media etc rather than restore from backup, just as a precaution.

It helps to get quality cards, of course.. you may not have corrupted files, or the files may have become corrupted by the card just going bad (which they sometimes do for no apparent reason other than heat or proximity to a very strong magnetic field, etc).

ok thanks guys, all I had on this card was photos and not many at that cause the card was only in a little over two weeks All I did was let the phone format the card. The first card had three roms on it bb, metrop, cm. I sent samsung a email and they did the norm.
Here is their reply:
Dear Doug Caruso ,

Thank you for contacting Samsung Telecommunications America.

With reference to your e-mail, we understand that the Sd cards on the phone have been stopped working. We apologize for the inconvenience that might have caused.

We would like to inform you that Samsung devices are manufactured under careful conditions and inspected before leaving the point of manufacturer. We have checked our database and we do not have any issues recorded regarding the SD card failure. As the other similar phone do not have issue with the Samsung SD card on it. We request you to contact the store where you have replaced the SD card and try using a different SD card of different manufacturer and check if it working fine. We also suggest you to try using a better SD card on the phone by contacting the store.

If you have any further queries you can write back to us, we will be glad to help you.

Anyhow also sent an email to Lexar to see what they want to do.
So for the time being I put my old 2g samsung sd card from my old admire into the phone and it is working. My wife still has her samsung 2g card in her s3 and never had it die.

The s3 is well known to kill or "fry" sd cards mate. Samsung have never accepted the blame but Sandisk sd manufacturer seemed to admit that it was their fault (which makes no sense since the s3 kills sd from any manufacturer) and said they were implimenting a fix for it.
If it was me, id ask for a refund and buy a Sandisk card since they aparently have a fix.
Just make sure you back up your sd to the cloud or your computer regularly if the stuff on it is important to you

Thanks Funky, I have drop box and Google both upload picks and stuff so I did not lose anything. Will see what Lexar says next few days.
Will explore the refund possibility.
