Help Nexus 5 just turned off by itself

I have had my Nexus 5 for about 6 months and never have I had a problem until now. Tonight while I was charging my phone, it shut off. I turned it back on and everything was fine. I plugged it back in and it did the same thing. I am rooted and have a custom rom. Thinking that it might be because of the rom I wiped data and cache and re installed the rom. That was not the problem because it is still turning off everytime I charge it. Any idea why? Should i go back to stock and see if it still happens?

If you have a nandroid backup of stock then yeah. Otherwise just try another rom or build version mate

Does it shut off immediately when you plug it in, or after a while? And is it noticeably warm when it shuts down?

Just considering the possibility that it might not be software.

Oh, indeed. I'm certainly hoping it is software, and that a new ROM or return to stock will fix it. Just considering all possibilities.
