Nexus 7 2012 Unroot

Hey Guys, new to these forums. I have a 2012 Nexus 7 (the one without the rear camera) and I unrooted my tabket a while ago when I first got it. (Kernel Version says Nov, 2 2012) Android Version 4.2.1. Desperately need help, I dont use any root apps anymore and just want to be able to update to the newest version of android.

For the OTA you will need to have recovery, kernel, and rom all stock. An alternative is to flash the update via a toolkit like wugs.

Oh, I moved this to the 2012 N7 forum. The instructions for the 2013 would be mostly the same, but the file downloads would be bad.;)

Welcome to the board. :D

We have a handy guide that should walk you through the basic steps for flashing from a factory image. You can even *attempt* to keep your data intact by removing the "-w" from the flashall.bat script - or by manually flashing all file systems except userdata. Let us know if you need more help. :)

Thank you!! Will try using the guide when I get home later and will post again when done. I'm a complete novice, I'm honestly surprised I was able to root my Nexus 7 in the first place. Soooo, this may take me a couple hours, and a couple glasses of whiskey lol. And I'm not too worried about keeping my data intact, I'm just bored of the old Android OS, so I'm sure the newest update will make it feel like a brand new tablet.

If you're not worried about preserving data, that guide should do you. :D

Is yours the Wifi-only variant? If so, the latest OS file is here: https://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/nakasi-lrx21p-factory-93daa4d3.tgz

If it's a Mobile (LTE) version, the 5.0 update hasn't been released yet - but you can still grab the latest 4.x release here: https://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/nakasig-ktu84p-factory-0cc2750b.tgz

Good luck! :D
