Help nexus 7 wrong fav icon?

I've noticed that my fav icon is not displaying properly when I open a new tab.
now it's stuck on Facebook fav icon. prior to the google chrome update I just got it would show Facebook fav icon on every tab. after the google chrome update I thought it was fixed till I noticed it on new tabs only. a few months before that it was stuck with a weather page icon. you can see in the attached image that on the recently viewed pages tab it has the Facebook icon falsely labeled with a cnn icon. factory reset didn't seem to fix that either. any suggestions how to fix would be appreciated.

chrome version: 37.0.2062.117
android 4.4.4

Nope.

Have you tried deleting Chrome's cache and app data? You do this from the Apps menu from Settings. Find Chrome in the list of apps and tap to select. Then, use the buttons for clear cache and clear data.

thanks that worked.

what exactly does it delete when chrome app data is cleared? i don't immediately notice if i lost anything except having to relogin passwords in the browser. I'd been putting off doing it for not wanting to lose something.
