yep - just saw that at Nexus One Phone - Web meets phone.
dissappointing if true. i'm not getting a new phone unless it has HTC's Sense.

Was anyone under the impression that the passion WOULD have sense? I think this is the day we were all waiting for people! Nexus on Verizon confirmed!!!

I just think alot of us were hoping. It is not a deal killer for me. Looks like Android is putting alot of functionality in the UI that Sense was trying to make up for before. Don't get me wrong, Sense UI is awesome to me, but not necessary.

Yeah I just posted this in another thread... I'm getting a droid Thursday for my renewal. I'll just take good care of it and sell it on ebay and pay full retail when the passion or the bravo is available. I can't wait any longer to play with android

10:50 a.m.: Queiroz takes us through screenshots of the store. Potential customers can get demos of various Nexus One applications within the store, and take a 3D tour. The phone will be available for $529 without service, and $179 with a two-year contract from T-Mobile. The prices aren't yet available for Verizon Wireless or Vodafone yet. All of this can be done from your PC; you won't have to go into T-Mobile's store.

Unless HTC themselves pulls one out of their butt between now and then with something that can compare (EXTREMELY unlikely, IMO), I'll be impatiently waiting until Spring!

So the Press Event announces that the VZW N1 will be locked. Expect a $179-199 price tag, with 2-yr contract and ETFs to boot! That being said, this is what VZW might have meant when they said they'd have two "flagship" Android devices: 1) with keyboard, 2) without keyboard.
As for Sense, Peter Chou didn't sound very confident about it when he talked about devices updating to 2.1. He clearly said "some devices" will get it. Whether that means CPU/GPU compatibility to 2.1 or the fact that they haven't successfully mated Sense to 2.1, much less 2.0x. I think Google is laying down the iron fist with the "pure Google experience," as represented by the DROID and, now, N1. No more Sense overlay for "pure Google" phones.
Maybe HTC will release an OS2.0x with Sense, but not a 2.1 with Sense.

This sounds about right. And, if true, it means I'll probably be jumping ship from Android whenever the next iPhone lands on Verizon. Unless they fix the multi-touch issue and invest seriously in appealing UI design, I'm pretty much done with Android.
Yeah, what a major dissapointment. The hype and subsequent release of this snooze of a phone shows that the google camp has their heads up their arses. Basically a crossgrade from the droid with a "revolutionary" OS upgrade which only has a few UI graphics tweaks and a gallery that should have been on the droid in the first place. Already two months since the droid release, which is an eternity in the electronics space and that's all they could come up with. What do they have the 3 stooges in their Android software engineering dept. 512 K sys memory => Android = Winmo Deluxe. After 15 years of wince/PPC/Winmo and 3 months Android after Verizon's willful neglect of Alltel customers and finally forced to try Apple's Iphone I can say there is no comparison even to Vanilla iphoneOS. I did miss multitasking and sound profiles but the battery just lasted forever and it was just absolutely blazing fast and the apps and games are ridiculus.
Then I did the 15 sec jailbreak and with a day of modding VS what would have taken me weeks on winmo. I've got awesome Palm webOS card style multitaksing, sound profiles, animated desktop, folders, 92 games and 300+ total apps that are all phenomenal and in 28 days not one reboot, crash or app lockup. I have the OS hacked to do everything that i ever wanted a phone to do and it is more stable in a month then android was in a day with only a homescreen replacement....... Not only does Apple have the best app developers but all the best hackers too, so basically it is waaaayyy more open source than Android.
3 months and updates later the droid still has too many issues. They cant even get the LEDs to shut off in the nightstand dock. Just that one great idea alone got me so excited about the Droid, but is a prime example of the ineptitude of these folk. Create a desk clock but dont even have someone use it and notify them that... hey guys you cant really sleep well with this light beacon on the screen doesnt dim enough and the LED are too bright... just stooopid.... The iphone desk clocks are plentiful, free and dim perfectly.

i want a new phone NOW! lol but idk if i want to settle for a DROID and sell it later?( do you think the people will be willing to pay as much for a contract free droid once all these newer phones come?)
The N1 looks pretty good but im unsure about the keyboard.
But maybe the Bravo/Passion is the N1. You know how the Droid Eris is essentially a Hero, but with a new design? Maybe thats how the Bravo will be?

That's what I'm hoping too. If the Bravo/Incredible or whatever it may be called, hits before the Nexus comes to Verizon, it will make the Nexus just another great phone when it comes to Verizon. Regardless, it looks like I'm holding out for the Incredible. I hear it's going to be...wait for it...INCREDIBLE! Looks like my LG Dare is going to be in action for a few more months.

I was waiting for this phone to come to Verizon with HTC Sense on it. It looks like it won't have it. Engaget reviewed the Nexus one and they said they prefered the Droid. The Nexus wasn't much faster, some of the colors on the screen were way oversaturated, and they had trouble with typing and activiting the 4 buttons at the bottom. Getting kicked out to the home screen while typing would drive me CRAZY. I guess I'm getting the Droid unless Motorola announced a thinner phone at their press conference tomorrow that will be out in the next month....

Uh, wasn't this same issue reported with the Droid's soft keyboard? Sign me up for the Nexus One. I'm not super picky in the sense I don't need some blog to love it a billion times better than any other phone in existence. It has a large, brilliant display, it is fast, and it is thin.

I think this is where Google themselves, actually selling the phone runs into a problem. Will customers be able to walk into a tmobile or verizon store and play with a model? If not, then the only thing is to rely on for knowing you want this phone are blogs, videos, reviews, and camparisons. All are cool, but nothing is better than actually feeling the phone in you're hand. But im unsure. Just question i need cleared up.
i don't understand why this has been up for debate the only image of the passion is identical to the nexus one(aside from colour)? what evidence is there that it's a different device?
Sense UI would be sweet but i'm damn glad i didn't get an eris or a droid, bring it on rooted nexus one!

I am looking at the Google site, I am not seeing that the phone has FM. Am I missing it?

I agree. Although I'm tired of waiting and ready to upgrade from my LG Dare to Android, hopefully the wait till Spring for the Nexus One will be fruitful. Hoping the HTC Incredible, the Motorola Shadow, and the Motorola Google Phone are released before then, so we will have a choice of Snapdragon phones on Verizon. Also the N1 being locked to Verizon should guarantee subsidization and insurance (if you choose).
In addition, we will be reading about problems, tricks, battery tweaks, etc. over the next couple on months and let those GSM fanboys do the test piloting for us!

Well I am going to root the droid and update to a leaked 2.1 when I get it Thursday. There are a lot of guys that have already done this to their Droids. They seem to like 2.1 a whole lot. I can get the official 2.1 update when it is released.
A moto droid with android 2.1 on verizon's network is really the best competition for the iphone right now, in my opinion. If something better comes out I can always sell the droid and buy the next phone. Just gotta take good care of it.
