Help No sim or sd card seen!

Hi all,
To cut a long story short I had to re-build what was a working htc desire s.
Since I have put it back together the phone wont recognise either the sim or the sd card even though they are both in the phone.
On the assumption that I have put it back correctly and have not shorted anything out, does anyone have any ideas why this would happen? or what I can do to fix it...would a factory reset make any difference?

I have done many searches and still no wiser.

The phone boots up and works fine except for the above issues

I have fixed it!

I had another look, the sim card and sd card reader was not connected to the mainboard. I didn't ever unplug the connector, it must have worked loose when I pulled the gubbins out of the phone shell.
