Help Note 8 cannot rotate to landscape with Samsung cover

When the Samsung cover is fully folded to the back, my Note 8 goes to portrait mode. It will not rotate to landscape. If the cover is open but not fully folded to the back, the rotation works. Is this a bug or design?

I think it could be a buggy design? It must use some sort of magnet or proximity sensor to trigger it. So the field is probably strong enough to trigger it into a locked screen rotation.

There are few apps in Google play that can auto force screen rotation. Maybe see if that will help as a workaround?

I agree with NG, as far as educated guesses are concerned. The Poetic case I bought seems to have a magnet/proximity sensor trigger as well, but I have no problem going into landscape. I'm also using NOVA launcher, so I never figured there would be an issue.

i also have the official book cover and my rotation works fine with it flipped back
