Official Samsung MHL 2.0/HDMI adapter?

janx218

Newbie
Just got the S4 and so far, I'm loving it. However, one thing that has intrigued me about the device but which I seem to be unable to find much info on is the ability to connect it to an HD display via HDMI. I have found plenty of third-party MHL cables online, but I'm wondering if anyone has any info on the official Samsung MHL 2.0 cable and if/when it will be available here in the US.

I have the Samsung adapter from my S3 as well. And have had no problems with it at all since upgrading to S4. Use it all the time with Samsung Link to stream my downloaded tv shows, etc from the phone to the big screen.

The gs3 one will work with the 4 however the max you will get out of it is 24hz. The one made for the 4 is 60hz. Im waiting for the s4 one. I heard June for a release in the us but didnt see any exact date.

Thanks for the replies. I was looking specifically for info on the new one for the S4, as it apparently features some upgrades. As such, I hope you're right about the June release date, sincarafan.

I have the S4 one, I would recommend waiting, particularly if you plan to do gaming on it. 60Hz Vs 24-30Hz for the S3 adapter makes a noticeable difference.

Anyone have an amazon link for the proper (and ideally cheap) MHL to HDMI adapter. I see there are numerous options and want to make sure i get one that will work for the s4. Anyone using one of these? It looks like some of them also need a charger plugged into the adapter. Is that standard across the board? Seems awfully inconvenient.

As a follow-up question, does anyone know if the UK version of the cable would work with the US S4? I'm kind of getting frustrated with the lack of info on all the S4 accessories Samsung announced. I know the new cable is available elsewhere and am wondering if an import would work.

I am in the USA and got the Samsung one for the S4 as part of the 50% off deal using the coupon I got for registering my device. Works great.

Wow, I have been through hell with samsung customer support today. Here is what you want to know about the MHL 2.0 adapter, but read though to the end. The Samsung MHL Smart Adapter:
"11-pin "samsungs MHL"-HDMI adapter/dongle[edit]
The Samsung Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note II and Galaxy S4 use a connector that is similar to the original 5-pin MHL-HDMI adapter/dongle, but it uses 11-pins in order to achieve a few functional improvements over the 5-pin design.
It supports the use of USB and MHL simultaneously. (Note that the new Samsung 11-pin MHL-HDMI adapter also has a USB On-The-Go port).

I noticed that you listed the part as (ET-H10FAUW, White)

The one I got is (ET-H10FAUWE, White)

Is that what you have?

Now that i am looking at it, it does have an e on the end. Wtf. It looks just like the picture. I did a search on samsung site and nothing came up with the e on the end. Thank you for pointing that out. Noe the question is what damn adapter do I have?

Damn, after some research, I have found that I got the UK version of this adapter that was designed for the octa-core phone I9500. I live in the states and we have the quad-core. I just can't believe there are two different versions. I'm an idiot.

You can only see this product on the UK site. I did not realize when I was searching on the US site it was bringing up the closest match. Damn.

Unicorn, was that offer through Samsung or your carrier? In other words, where did you actually get the cable? As I said, I haven't been able to find any info about where to get it in the US, so any help is greatly appreciated.

After I got the phone through Costco at their Verizon kiosk, I had to go the the Samsung web site with the information to actually register the phone by serial number. Since my wife and I each got a phone, I registered both. Samsung sent me two coupons directly and the cable plus two desk docks were ordered using one coupon. I still have one coupon to use, and I am debating the merits of ordering extra batteries. So far, it doesn't look like we need those.

Which MHL Adapter is compatible for Samsung SG4?

I've bought two different adapters (today)....and neither is compatible.

Now, I'm hearing that I have to buy a Samsung HDTV Adapter.

Is that true?

Do you have a compatible MHL Adapter for a SG4?

If so, can you tell me who manufactured it and where I can buy one?

Thanks.

This question has been asked lots of times so feel free to use the search function in future.

You need an 11 pin MHL adapter rather than the standard 5 pin one. Samsung makes their own but you can buy compatible adapters on eBay for a lot less.

The only other thing to be aware of is that the S4 is MHL 2.0 and there will shortly be (or perhaps it is already out) an adapter specifically for the S4 that has a 60 Hz output rather than the previous 24Hz which is rather slow but useable.

Thanks to my similar question, I learned yesterday thst the new official Samsung adapter for the S4 is available now. It's on Samsung's site and Amazon (and, I'm sure, other places) for around $40. Just search Samsung MHL 2.0 and it should be the first result.

As above, I've had the Samsung S4 one since the release date of the S4. It works without a charging input, but simultaneous USB OTG does not work except via the Samsung Smart Dock.
