Online/offline backup for Android

Pending Deletion
Hi all,

What app will let me backup all my apps, text messages, homescreen settings etc from my Desire? I really wouldn't mind whether it was online or offline, but it would be great to be able to do a factory reset and not lose all my settings, texts, emails and have to reinstall all my apps.

Cheers

Richard
(I know Desire has got a backup thing built in, but it's rather limited that you can't manually backup/restore, and I need a goldcard to perform updates so it won't work for me anyway!)

The only app (afaik) that will allow you to backup everything and and do a complete restore with correct market links is Titanium Backup but it does require root.

you can also use appbrain that will keep a online list of all of your apps, you can also install directly from appbrain.com and you can use MIQ to sync all data except apps to their website and you can login and view everything and sync it back to another phone if you needed to, plus I can also view my text msg, pics and videos. MIQ and appbrain are both free.

I use backup pro and Titanium Backup, but you can never have enough

Unfortunately, AppBrain does not register all applications (even when installed from the market) and it does not allow to restore less-than-current versions.

To backup all app and settings, I believe, requires root. In addition to Titanium Backup, look at MyBackup Pro, which will back up to your SD card or to an online server (theirs, not yours).

FileGo is a file manager that will let you manually back up your apps to SD, so this might be a good option for what you seem to be looking for: the ability to back up a prior version of an app before downloading a new one.

Great, thanks all. It's a shame that root is needed to perform what I believe is an essential function.

AppBrain then looks to be my best option at the moment.

Upon revisiting the MyBackup web site, it looks like it may back up unprotected apps even if you're not rooted. You can try it out for 30 days for free to find out.
