Orders through VZW filled before resellers?

Wanted 2 smart phones so I decided to take the best deal and ordered my DInc and a Moto Droid for my wife through Wirefly on 5/14. $150 for the DI and $20 for the Moto plus we get $100 cash back through Bing so $70 total for 2 sweet phones is real nice.

So does VZW get all of the inventory right off the production lines to fill their online and store orders first? No problem waiting patiently since I knew about the shortage before ordering, just curious how it works with the 3rd party sellers.

It varies by the device and by the carrier's marketing plan for a particular device. Sometimes Wirefly gets devices before the carrier stores, sometimes it works the other way around. Sometimes a retailer will get a 2 week exclusive.

The Droid Incredible is an extremely rare and highly unusual situation, as it is a flagship device being advertised on television that ran into production delays. Verizon Wireless is closely monitoring backorders and allocating accordingly. In other words, they know every day how many orders Wirefly has taken and are trying to allocate based on that. If possible, they do not want people to have to wait longer at one location vs. another.

FYI, thought I'd come back and provide a quick update since I started this thread. Got an email from Wirefly the next day that my order had been processed and had shipping confirmation same day (Saturday). Order placed on 5/14 and was quoted 2-3 weeks and they fulfilled it in just over 2. Great job Wirefly.
