OTG cable problems... Please Help!

I bought an otg cable for my Nexus 7, from Amazon a few weeks ago. The cable picks up my USB memory sticks just fine. However, when I connect my PS3 Sixaxis controller it doesn't respond. I downloaded 'USB Host Controller' from the play store to check if their was a connection problem, and there wasn't:

Can any one offer any help?

My N7 is 32gb and non-rooted. With no previous problems.

I have not tried it yet. on my list of things to do.

1. you must use a real PS3 controller.. or a good off brand.
I have heard many off brands don't work right.

2. there is an app you must purchase to make it work.
