Overly miscalculated of applications in device storage

Hi guys I need your help.

My device storage is showing overly miscalculated values. First of I am using a Samsung Galaxy Note 8. I have been using this device for 7 months now and this is the first time I have this problem. The internal storage of the device is only 16gb (usable is only 9.8 gb something out-of-the-box. I have the latest software updates (running Jelly Bean 4.2.2).

The problem is that the 'Applications' size is showing way way larger than the capacity of the internal storage. It is showing 60+gb (which is just insane) and just keeps on increasing everytime I check the storage capacity. I can't post a screenshot since I am just new here. I have tried restarting the device and checking it again but it would just display the same (or even larger Application size). I also removed my 64gb external sd card to see if somehow the device is reading from that and just mistakenly displays it to the internal storage part but no. I even tried to clean the cache multiple times but the Application size just keeps on piling. I don't want to reboot/ restore factory settings since I have invested much data on my applications already. I have lots of documents/notes and games like Dead Trigger 1 and 2, Plants vs Zombes 2, Ironman, etc. In which I already reached a significant higher level.

What do you think might be the problem is? This is quite annoying. I hope someone has a solution.

Same here, It's a 16 GB but even that is wrong, Oddly it reports 100 GB of storage, of that as I drill down 98 GB is in the Gallery but it won't tell me which file and I have very few pictures on it. (Third party apps report no huge pictures or videos )

Three third party file managers report everything correctly, It just seems to be in the stock app settings, storage.

It does not seem to hurt anything as it just seems to be a false report, no ill effects like storage full and it's been like this for months.

I sure would like to fix it with out a factory reset though, I'm not going to do that unless it actually effect something in the real world.
