Help POP e-mail only downloading non-read server messages

Hello all,

I'm having a slight concern with my POP3 mail settings on my Galaxy S2. I have several e-mail accounts which are synced to my phone and to a desktop system. Both the phone and desktop are always synching in hourly intervals. Based on this, some messages are not getting pulled to my phone. The phone only appears to be downloading unread messages from the servers (the desktop is running outlook 2010 and when those messages are downloaded, they are marked as read). The phone is set to never remove files from the server and the desktop will remove after 1 day.

Also, I have noticed that after an e-mail has been downloaded on the desktop, the e-mail is removed from my phone during the subsequent download.

These items are contridictory to my history of using POP3. My expectation is that the download/synch on the phone will retain a copy of the e-mails locally and I can delete, reply and store locally without impacting the server setup. (FYI -- this is exactly the same setup I had on my iPhone previously which worked fine).

Anyone have any ideas that I can try to get this resolved? thanks in advance!
