i recently installed xubuntu on my computer, and i cant get proxoid to work with Xubuntu. I haven't found any instruction on Xubuntu only on Ubuntu. The Ubuntu instructions dont seem to work with Xubuntu.

Hey Chidori,

let's try to back up a bit. What phone do you have, running what version of Android, and what is your end goal?

i have the mytouch 3g 1.2, non rooted, running 1.6. My goal is to tether my phone with xubuntu using proxoid.

Open a terminal (you can find one in your main menu)

run:

sudo apt-get install network-manager-gnome

You should already have something called "nm-applet" running, it is the little icon you use to connect to wireless networks. Right-click on it and go to "edit connections" and this should bring up the network management dialog.

Well, if everything is working right, when you create a connection with the given settings, you should connect using your phone as a proxy. (aka, tethering.)

To be honest, though, if you really want tethering, you should root the phone. I'm actually posting this wireless-tethered to my Motorola Droid. I was scared to root it at first, but I'm glad I did it. Wireless tethering, better battery life, and best of all, the people at the Verizon store thought it was pretty cool.
