PS3 Remote

For all those amazing developers, I would really like a PS3 remote app. Forgive my ignorance, but maybe it can be connected via bluetooth?
 
That would be a cool idea, have it be like a regular remote for when watching movies, and when your surfing the net or sending a pm have it be like a keyboard/mouse type thing. Surfing then net and sending messages with the controller really ruins the experience imo.
 
Perfect example. However, I was think on a more limited scale of just acting as a PS3 controller geared towards powering the PS3 "on" "off" and navigating to and in the Netflix menus. At times I'm lazy and don't want to get off my butt to get a controller, but I always have my phone within reach, therefore, an android PS3 remote app would be brilliant.
 
I actually think this is a pretty neat concept.

The problem is that you would have to load a "reciever" onto the PS3 as we do not know anything about the PS3's Bluetooth driver... You can't register the calls if you don't know how the PS3 handles calls.

It's hard to explain, but put it this way. Designing the app for the phone is only half the project. You would also have to develope a driver for the PS3 that would enable it understand what you are trying to tell it to do.

Do you think it would be easier to develop if you had a ps3 driver to examine like the one they have for windows?

Yes, if you had access to the PS3's bluetooth driver and was able tor everse engineer it, you could easily do it.

Honestly though, it would be best if we could somehow just find the information we needed from a reputable source. For example, I wonder if Sony has their bluetooth protocol info available somewhere?

i dont think they would freely publish that info considering that you have to pay like $10k just for a developer's console

Is there anyway to capture the signals sent by normal PS3 controller, and then somehow mimic the signals with the phone? This would then bypass the need for the PS3 to have a separate driver for an Android Phone Bluetooth Protocol.
 
I think that sounds like a really cool idea, but the problem would be imitating the PS3 controller signals. To be honest, I've never programmed anything involving video game consoles, but I'd assume that the signal would be encrypted somehow (so that the signal gets sent to the correct PS3 instead of another system/console nearby). So then not only would you need information on how the controller sends commands, but also information on how it encrypts its information.

Then again, I could be completely wrong and this will be an easy app to make, lol. XD
 
I know you need to pair a controller with a console before the first use on a console, however, I don't know if that process "encrypts" the signal or if it just tell both devices to look for acknowledge each other.

I am not sure if the ps3 encrypts the bluetooth or not upon pairing, however, if it does you can pretty much kiss any chance of making this app goodbye unless you plan to pay a very, very large fee for the license to their particular protocol.
 
Now, I wishing I took more CS and EE classes in college. Maybe it could work via network access. I'm not aware of any peripherals that connect via the network other than a media server, but I'm not the most knowledgeable console person, so maybe some sort of network protocol could work. Isn't that how the XBMC remote app works?

Nice finds. There must be a way. (thinking...thinking....thinking...) That Bluetooth emulator is awesome, to bad it's on a NOKIA. That is more or less the idea I was thinking a few posts back, except for android phones not Nokia obviously.
 
Maybe someone should try asking the people who developed mobileSRC for details on what they did on the PS3 side? The worst that could happen is that they say no.
 
I am a hardcore gamer that has the "Ps3 friends" app. its great for me because while im at work i can check and see who is online and if my son is online. This app would be perfect if you could send messages from your phone to the psn and your friends.

As for the phone as remote app. that would be nice. I own the remote and it just sits in that pile of remotes that just "sit there" my phone is always at the ready by me.
 
I know that many different companies produce knock off controllers, mics, keyboards and remotes. they all pair via blu-tooth. Some companies just make stuff that pairs even though it is not intended for the ps3. ie. logitech. Yes we must pay for these items and they are not free but the knock off brands are mostly always cheaper.
The real bottom line here I think is that if the "remote" idea could not be done as a free app. It would still sell... I would buy it for up to 5 bucks. The ps3 is a vital component of home entertainment systems, add ons to perk it up are always fun.
 
If people are willing to spend hundreds of dollars for a PS3, and more for extra controllers and game, etc., I think they'd be willing to spend a few bucks for an app like this. XD
