Hi, my biggest concern on switching from Iphone to Android is the messaging. Will I lose all my history from imessage simply because I will be using a new messaging platform with the Android?

You won't have iMessage access at all from your Android - it's proprietary to Apple only.

In addition to the above, when/if you do switch, you'll need to turn iMessage off on your iPhone beforehand. If you don't you'll probably have problems receiving texts from iPhone users on your new phone.
