Razr Maxx HD Locked up. Now What??

Lurker
My phone locked up the other day and wouldn't respond so I did the volume down/ Power button reboot. All that comes back on is the Red "M" symbol. When I do the Power/ both up/down volume that brings up the printed options to reset etc. the only one that has a response other then automatically trying to reboot, is the selection of the "Fast Reboot" that then brings up a screen with some basic info. One of the things it says is that the phone is "Locked"

This phone is only several mo. old and is a replacement of another Razr Maxx that did the identical same thing.

Is there anything I can do to Unlock it or make it usable again?
Thanks for any help!!

Being locked only means the phone has not been rooted. So this is normal. I am not familiar with the stock recovery but the first option you stated, to do a FDR is the one you want. This will reset the phone like you got it on day one. This also means your photo's etc. will be lost.

If you have the google back ups set you will regain most if not all the phone stuff but most likely loose app stuff. You will lose say saved games etc.. For further insurance boot up to fast boot mode and with a data use cable get what you can off the storage.

Last options are with a stock image reloading the stock OS but this may not be possible with a locked phone.

My Razr Maxx HD will not respond to anything after doing the reset or Fast reboot or anything. So rebooting the stock Verizon that it came with is not possible?? Is rooting it my only option? I really don't care at this point if I lose everything as Google was backing me up.
If rooting it is my only option, will my Verizon plan still work?

I'll also need step by step instructions on how to do it. Any advice?

Rooting is probably not possible from where you are right now. What you may need to do, from recovery, is a FDR. This would bring the phone to the condition as you had purchased it but with the latest ROM update you had installed, not the original version.

This is exactly what happened to my Razr HD on Friday, unfortunately.

I talked with a tech in store & he said there was nothing he could do to get it past that red M screen. Essentially, my phone bricked for no understandable reason sometime after my alarm function Friday morning.

Fortunately I have insurance & they said that I was still under warranty, so a replacement Razr Maxx HD is arriving via FedEX today. I have no idea how a nearly 2 year old device is still under warranty....but I'm not questioning it.

I'm eligible for upgrade on black friday this year. So this replacement just has to get me to the end of the month, then I am in the clear. :)

I really wasn't looking forward to paying full price for a phone so close to upgrade eligibility.

Verizon is aggressively marketing. You might ask them about an early upgrade on whatever it is that you are planning to go to. Perhaps you can do it sooner.

Well hopefully Mine, and my daughters lasts to 8/2015. While she has the monthly insurance I do not. Mine though is rooted and on CM11 while hers is 100% stock.

The OP though said he could pull up fast boot, if he could get to recovery a FDR may be the ticket.

I may be wrong on this, but I think I remember the Verizon salesman telling me I'd also get an added year of warranty when he convinced me to buy the Asurion insurance. Seems like it's through Motorola, and I'm paying for it along with the insurance. There's so many fees involved it's hard to figure out what I'm paying for. And again, I could be wrong about this since it happened almost two years ago...
