Refusing to Wake Up

jexit

Lurker
My phone will not wake up when I press the power button. The notification light will continue to blink making me think that it's not locked up but the screen will not come back on until I hold the power button (forever) and reboot it. I updated to the new OS on the 24th and since then it has done this twice. I'm worried that it'll do it sometime that is not preferred such as when it's supposed to wake me up in the morning so I figured I'd see if anyone has seen this. I don't know for sure that it has to do with the update but I don't think I've seen it before now so it felt like a possibility.
Nexus 4/T-mobile/was using the latest OS prior to update
I have of course updated all of my apps to support the new OS as well so my next step is to attempt to look through all the feedback on my apps to see if anyone complains. Any suggestions/input is appreciated.

The move from 4.4.4 to 5.0 was a huge architecture change for Android. We have been getting reports of a lot of odd behavior from people who applied the update. The safest and easiest way to "fix" this is going to be a factory reset. Please make sure you backup everything you want to keep prior to the reset so you don't lose anything.

I've actually experienced a similar intermittent issue with my N4 since updating to 5.0 - and I opted for a full wipe before flashing the update via the factory image. A factory reset may help, but I'm not entirely sure of that considering my fresh start with Lollipop.

I finally rooted and installed an alternative kernel the other day, and I don't think I've had the "sleep of death" since doing so. I'll wait a few more days before I say that it's gone for sure though.

I'd be interested to see if when the power button refuses to wake the N4, will an incoming call wake it up?

I must admit that now that I have my N6, the N4 doesn't see much duty. :blushDroid:

Good question - I don't generally receive calls, so I don't know. :(

If mine refuses to wake up again I may try calling it though just to see.

Well, mine refused to wake up again. Didn't have a chance to call it though. It does at least suggest that swapping to a different kernel isn't necessarily the fix. :-/

I saw that 5.0.1 is starting to make its way out. Haven't seen a change log, but I imagine we should have the factory image before the weekend. Hopefully it will fix some of the issues. :-)

Well, I gave it a few days and obtained a few more application updates. Since it wasn't happening constantly I'm not sure if any of them actually fixed it or if I am just lucky enough that it hasn't happened again. I'll keep an eye on it and see if it happens since the latest updates. If so I'll give it a call and report back. Otherwise maybe it was just one of the apps causing conflicts with the new OS changes.
