Phone appears to be an LG Optimus S with Android 2.3.

Unlimited Mobile/Data/Text for $19 per Month.

The only phone available with this service is $199 and discounted until November 27 for $99.00. I wonder if the LG Optimus V can be "re-flashed" to use on this carrier?

It looks like it is just VOIP. I haven't read a whole bunch, but from what I have read, VOIP.

Its a combination of voip and cell. They request you use voip as much as possible. If you go over what they suggest they contact you and try to help you figure a way to fix that if you can't they will ask you to leave there service. I read all there info on there site. Its a moded optimus not exactly sure what they did to it to get it to auto connect wish I could check out the os setup before deciding on it. They out right say its a moded phone.

Yeah I've been waiting for yesterday (when they officially went online) for over a week but they had ordering problems right out of the gate. Unfortunately I couldn't get one from the first batch issued. If you order now, you won't get one until mid December or January. The phone they use is an optimus s with a special app for cell and wifi switching. I'm sure it could be rooted as they are running Android 2.3.5. I wanted one so bad as i don't get cell service in town since VM doesn't roam whereas republic does.

Really, that made up my mind. I wanted something right away. I have little patience when it comes to waiting for a new toy. When I got my ov it was sold out everywhere, I got it right after it came out, I went to ten stores to find it that day.

I know what you mean. When I tried to order last night, it said I'd get it on the 15th. To bad they was only (I read somewhere) 550 phones to initially ship with. I don't wanna wait a while month for the phone... I'm like you I want it now!! lol

They make it appear as if they have some form of modify Optimus Hardware, but I agree with you that it is "a special app for cell and wifi switching". BTW, is there any other Optimus (S, T, V, etc.) running Android 2.3.5?

I was able to order one of these device before Republic Wireless stop taking orders for the Beta. No date given for shipping.

A co-worker of mine got in on this early and I'm curious to get his feedback once he receives the phone. I live in Raleigh, NC which is about 10 miles from the Republic Wireless (Bandwidth.com) headquarters and the local news stations had been covering the release of this service, so it's fairly well known locally.

It does appear from their site that the modifications exist both at the hardware and software levels. Some kind of deep integration of the software to the hardware that opportunistically optimizes WIFI usage and reports back to the mother ship with statistics. I'd imagine that if the proprietary software and apps get rebaked into a variant of CM7 that it'd work just fine on their modified optimus.

I guess we'll see soon enough!!

I'm running the backside ROM and its Android 2.3.7. I read an article that there could be an app from them so any Android phone could be a hybrid and run on there system.

Question is how efficiently "any android" phone will run with their app

EDIT: Now that I come to think of it, this would suck for me because of the area I live in. I live in a very rural area, so hardly any WiFi anywhere except at home. I would suck through the cellular usage caps like nothing. I think I'll stick with my trusty Op. V
