Help [Resolved] 6.0.1 OTA update trouble

TooHip

Newbie
Last night I accepted and installed the 6.0.1 OTA update on my LTE Nexus 9, and it became stuck on the animated splash screen in perpetuity. After waiting a VERY long time, I finally became impatient and powered it down, hoping it would recover on restart. Nope. It's borked.

I tried clearing the system cache in recovery. Still no love. ADB sideload gives me an error at about half way through (of which I can't recall just at this moment - Perhaps I can post again later when I have time to try again.)

Anyone else experience anything like this and manage to recover? The bits of the of the support forums I've been able to read might lead me to believe I'll have to ship it to Memphis.

Sigh.

Adb sideload won't work, the update is already applied (at least partially) so it will fail checks. Have you unlocked your bootloader? If yes, you can just flash the 6.0.1 factory image. You remove the -w from the flash-all.bat file and it won't wipe any data. Or a much easier way is using wugfresh nexus root toolkit. It's all point and click, super easy. It does all the flashing for you. Pick your build (6.0.1) and device (nexus 9 ) then choose flash stock+unroot option. Select no-wipe option. The toolkit will help you install the drivers and it will download the factory image and extract it and everything.
If you haven't unlocked the bootloader, you would have to do that to flash a factory image. The toolkit will do it for you (just click unlock bootloader), but unlocking wipes all user data (factory reset). So its up to you.

Thanks for the suggestions Madbat. Unfortunately, even though I had previously enabled USB debugging, NRT was unable to unlock the bootloader, and failed to continue no matter what I tried. I even tried to just do fastboot oem unlock too. No good.

Long story short, I started back at square one, downloaded what I believe to be the same OTA build I tried before and sideloaded it without issue. All good now!

I forgot, on nexus 9 you have to enable oem unlocking in developer options. It's not just USB debugging you have to worry about. I have seen people not enable that, then brick their n9, and can never recover because they did not enable oem unlocking. Just a heads up.
