RMHD to stay on 4.1.2

The Motorola Owners Forum has posted that the Razr Maxx HD will remain on 4.1.2. Certainly not the best news for those of us who currently own the phone and not up for a new phone any time soon.

Yep. I saw this too. Kinda blows for this recently "Highest End" Verizon phone to be basically shut down as far as OS goes, less than one year into its life.

I blame Verizon and their sloooooow, buggy, layers of crapware and sloooow, buggy OS approval process.

Oh, for a clean Google flavor phone with real battery life, like this one. So, if you buy new Maxx, it gets "deprecated" 1 year in too??

They seem to be pushing Edge now. There you pay each month and replace it after a year.

This (of course) became available three weeks after I upgraded to the Droid Maxx (from the Bionic).

The new Droid's do not seem to have SD cards though, I could have went with a newer one but did not wish to loose the card.............

There's no "do not seem" about it. The new Motos do not have SD storage at all. Built-in and in-the-cloud memory. Must be a Google thing to get you to use their cloud storage. Works for some but not for all. There's just something about having the option for SD card storage that I hate to give up on as well.

Motorola now says that announcement of no upgrade was a typo and to stay tuned for an upgrade decision...whatever that means

They are probably trying to push an update to make up for the error. They now probably feel a need to get this out ASAP rather than P.O. a bunch of their consumers...............

I am not familiar with Edge. Still fairly new to Verizon and to this phone.

That is good news, I would have liked to get the phone and at least one update. the question is will all the new updates be locked from rooting? Not that I plan to but to be honest if there is a must have update that will not be coming otherwise rooting may be a nice option to have.

Ah, what will happen in 4.3, not too sure about 4.2, is you loose the computers ability to see the device as mass storage.................

That ability was lost in 4.2.

Ah ok, was not too sure as My nexus came with 4.2 but I never connected it to the PC before the 4.3 upgrade. So essentially just about any upgrade we get we will loose mass storage capability............

I have a Bionic with 4.1.1 and it has Mass Storage, Media device, and Camera.

I have a Maxx with 4.2.2 and it has Media device and Camera.

Connecting both of these on Media device if I single click on the icon in Portable devices I get two drives displayed on the Bionic and one drive displayed on the Maxx.

The only thing that seems to be missing in 4.2.2 is the ability to rename the drives in Windows display.

this is the first I've heard about this...if true, screw this update...no way I'm taking it if it comes available... is there any fix to that?

No instead of being able to plug in and see two drives (mass storage) you will get the device and as subs under the device you will see the storage.

With my phone though with usb debugging disabled and MTP it will not do the mass storage other than to give me a directory with the phones software to install on the PC. So in the end this may be a non issue, at least with Verizon phones. As an aside in PTP mode I get the device with the internal and external as sub folders to the device..............
