[ROM] aospCMod | AOSP 2.3.4 / CM7 (Gingerbread) [05/23/11]

5/16 update enjoy aospCMod-HEROC-20110516-signed.zip

Edit. Just flashed I can confirm version says 2.3.4. So I'm hoping this fixes the very few glitches this great rom has. Also booted up with 110 Mb internal memory free by far my highest to date.

Flashed right over 4/29 and I know it's early but it seems a little quicker than earlier today.

What do I need to wipe if I'm going from Cyanogen 7.02 to 7.03?
Edit: I thought CM meant Cyanogen Mod, but apparently it doesn't.

This is not the same rom as cm7 fyi and also the wrong thread. But just wipe cache and davlik cache then flash.

This is a rom compiled from the same cm source but has aosp's own tweaks which take the rom to a more vanilla experience. In my opinion its faster and lighter.

Thanks. I realized I was in the wrong place after I posted.

Check to see if your alarm clock works, if it doesn't @ XDA they say to swap the Deskclock apk out and use the same permission as the one from the old build, incase you get FC

i'll make sure to save deskclock from old (/system/app?)what do you mean: 'permission'?

is it safe to just to flash this right over 2.3.3?

incidentally, v2.3.4 fixes an exploit recently found in Android when using open WiFi networks, which is cool. It's nice to be so cutting edge w/ old hw tech. Here's to no more mysterious reboots when using Google Nav (ala GPS).

So I'm liking 2.3.3 but there are some issues i have with widgets not working such as Pandora and preferences not staying saved such as using GO Dialer always instead of Phone.

So my question is about Titanium Backup, can i backup apps from 2.3.3 and then restore them in 2.3.4?

Also what is the .img file for? During my rooting process i only had to install the zip and gapps.

To answer your first question, yes. Just backup any app you want with tb and then when you flash 2.3.4(nandroid, then do a full wipe, then flash) you just download tb and restore them. I did it today and have had zero problems, all my apps restored without a hitch.

And the .img file is the newest clockwork recovery version. It is not needed at this point to flash this rom. If you want to know a little more about the differences in the recovery versions go to page 17 and start reading at don's post #812 and on. You will get a better idea of what the differences are between the new and old versions.

And on another note, if you are not doing a full wipe, and you are simply wiping cache and Davlik, then you need not worry about your apps as your phone will be exactly as before, just make sure before you flash to create a back up for safe keeping.

current version I have (some 2.3.3) has been working great...wondering if I should bother with this new one...seems like one of the biggest pros is the extra memory...?
anything else noticeable?

It's definitely up to you but I do notice it seems quicker and smoother all around. Also, it did close a wifi exploit that allowed your personal information to be stolen while on open wifi networks which is at least piece of mind if nothing else. And some are saying the gps reboots are not occuring anymore or at least not as quickly for most.

If nothing else make a nandroid flash it and if you don't like it nandroid back.

I guess I will have to be doing a full wipe and set my phone up from scratch, I still get the GPS reboots when using my golf GPS tracker, I will try Google Maps today for a ride and see if that also reboots if it does, then I will do a fresh install from a full wipe, if not then I will send the developer an email about his app rebooting the phone, I get one hole and the phone reboots everything, even if I use the GPS status first, will report back for U golf junkies like me, lol

You should try CyanogenMod 7.0.3, DonB. I have had nary a GPS reboot for the last month since CyanogenMod 7 final was released.

I still switch between CyanogenMod 7 and AOSP Android 2.3, but lately have been favoring the former because of the increased GPS stability. They are both snappy too.

Is this the one you are using, I thought there was a later release, [ROM] CyanogenMod 7 for the HTC Hero CDMA :: V7.0.3 (5 May 2011)

I think CyanogenMod 7.0.4 might be out by now, but I have just been on CyanogenMod 7.0.3 lately. I am sure the latest version still has reliable GPS connectivity.

Sometimes I just do not have time to flash the latest and greatest and if what I have works I stick with it for a while. Give it a try if you like.

Nope this looks like the latest release for HeroC of the Cyan site

Alright, then. Like I said, I have not been paying attention to it lately.

I guess must have read about upcoming fixes in CyanogenMod 7.0.4 and figured it would have been out by now. Oh well.

I read somewhere CM 7 2.3.4. release, but cannot find it, did the 3/25 Gapps work with it, they show the 3/07 release

The last I heard, CyanogenMod 7 with Android 2.3.4 was nightly releases. I am not sure if it is officially available for the Sprint HTC Hero yet outside of the aforementioned nightlies.

I have been on the same GApps as whatever was available with CyanogenMod 7.0.3. That would probably be the 3/7 GApps.

Did they ever fix the glitch with the notification pull down? That was something that kept me from using it. How is the internal storage compared to aospCMod?

Also did you try a full wipe with AOSP 2.3.4 to see how the GPS works, if I am going o do a full wipe I might as well try the AOSP 2.3.4 and see

To be honest, I have not had too much issue with either AOSP Android 2.3.4 or CyanogenMod 7 in the GPS department. My friend, however, had GPS locking issues with older AOSP Android 2.3 iterations.

He switched to CyanogenMod 7 and they went away. He actually got me to try CyanogenMod 7 after I had been a loyal AOSP Android 2.3 only user, and I was pleasantly surprised.

So I'm not really sure which version i have but I'm about to update to the newer version. Can i just flash over the older one?
