Root [rom] miui4dx 1.8.19[updated 8/23/2011]

so what your saying is the ONLY difference between cm7 and miui is the launcher?

no, they are both completely 100% different from each other, they just both use the 2init process to revamp the whole system

but that's not what he was saying.
Actually thats exactly what I am saying about this and every other Rom that has came out since cvpcs put out CM74DX. The Miui site even says its built on top of CM7. Of course they claim to have stripped it down to the bare AOSP but if you just look thru it you can see thats a load of crap just like with all the others. The most any of em do is take the CM7 overlay out, change launchers , edit some menu's to add their donation link, and some frameworks. And all but CM are using the libs etc from motorola that CM refuse to use since they want it all from src. but all you see is ppl whine n cry because the camera and video recorder dont work? Give me a break and give credit where credit is due.

With the miui rom I admit they put alot of work into and it is nice, but when you get to its roots its still CM7. And w/o CM7 and cvpcs they all would still be cooking stock roms.

And at least the Miui isnt just a reskined CM7 and them claiming its all their work ;)

Sorry dont mean to rant at any of you, but after weeks of reading ungrateful, whineass, crybabies comments in Rom manager I just had to vent lol.

I mean if they just needed a AOSP base then why not just build from AOSP and not strip down CM7?? makes sense to me ;)

This is ridiculous. It's like saying Sense is the same as Blur is the same as vanilla Android, all just because they're built on top of AOSP.

To anyone who might be on the fence because it's "the same" as CM7, it is absolutely, 100% not the same as CM7. Just because it uses a source as a base doesn't make it the same.

This introduces an entirely new theming system, which is quite comprehensive, a swipe-able pull down menu to turn on and off virtually all the settings you might want to toggle, a new lockscreen, a new style of menus, an entirely new layout to the settings section including a lot of additional settings, a backup feature, tons of shortcuts... Holy hell, I can't even write all of the things that are different.

It's not the same. At all. To say otherwise is just ignorance. Why would they want to reinvent the wheel? Do you know how much work the CM team puts into providing compatibility across lots of phones? MIUI just leverages that existing work so they can provide this in a timely manner.

I really enjoyed CM7. There are lots of features of MIUI that I enjoy as well, time will tell what one I decide I like better.

One last question, I installed the patch and was able to then install the My Tracks app from an .apk that I had downloaded so it seems that problem has been fixed.

However the market itself still claims my device is not compatible (web) and apps still do not show up in a search (android market app).

Is that expected?

If you read what I said, which was when u get to the core of its the same, I admitted the ui was completely different. its like when you build a hotrod, just because you tore a chevy all the way down n rebuilt it with new engine, paint, etc doesnt make it not a chevy anymore, still a chevy even if you stuck a ford engine in it. thats all I am saying. If it wasnt for CM and cvpcs's 2 init the Miui and other so-called CM7 based ROMs wouldnt be here for our DX's and the likes.

I thought miui was nice, just isnt for me, just too many frills for my needs n I like frills lol

MIUI has been cool to play with for the last couple days, but time to go back to CM7. MIUI just has too many "frills" for me and I am more partial to the themes on CM7...

I think I saw this on one of a few forums I frequent, but is there a way to remove the Verizon Wireless text in the notification bar?

RW has a link in the official MIUI thread about some addon framework editing package that you can download from the MIUI forums that will add it right into the menu.

I need help!!!!

I have been messing with themes all day and mixing and matching these. I like how easy it is to put a theme on (really not much different than CM7, other than the preview) but the ability to only apply parts of a theme is amazing.

In no way bashing anything else I have been on before but this is the best, IMHO. I have set up folder on one screen and put all my apps in folders (this screen is basically my app drawer). It is smooth and I can not find any major bugs that make this unusable. However this is very well polished and just feels very fluid.

The iPhone fanboy in my office took a look at it today and said this is almost like the iPhone until I showed him all of my widgets. Once I did that, well lets just say I think I finally have won the android vs iPhone battle in his eyes even.

My biggest issues (in no order)
1 - No landscape mode for stock launcher, dialer, contacts and music player (Yes I could install others, but I really do like the stock apps) which makes the car dock a little tricky.
2 - The launcher does not support scrolling widgets (mainly a calendar widget issue).
3 - No HDMI out support.
4 - No 720p recording.

Others have had issues with bluetooth syncing, but my headphones synced up with no problems. I am not sure about voice commands because I do not use them.

I could go on and on about the enhancements, but I won't, but there are a lot and I am sure I still have more to learn.

Battery Life - With slightly higher than normal use for me in 3 hours and 16 minutes I still have 80% battery left. This is with 3 emails sent and 26 received, 1 7 minute phone call and 22 out going texts and 26 incoming. Also tweetdeck updating every 15 minutes and a couple other things. So this would get me to 16+ hours in a normal day for me so is good enough. Also if this is like CM7 after it settles in it should get even better.

ok sbf'ed then z4rooted installed droid x bootstrap and every time i try to install the zip it aborts it and wont go any farther. Am i using the right file?

Anybody having/is there a fix for the fact that my text messages are being placed into a random order and not by the time that they were received?

Anyone having a problem with receiving phone calls while the phone is locked? It vibrates/plays my ring tone fine but its just a black screen. I have to unlock my phone and click on the phone under notifications to answer a call. Kind of annoying...

You are likely putting your finger over the proximity sensor. Try disabling the enforcement of the sensor for incoming calls.

You can find it under settings => programs tab => Call settings

I'm sure I wasn't, my phone was sitting on the kitchen table when I received a couple phone calls yesterday, it seems to every time I receive a call. Nevertheless I'll give this a shot now.

EDIT: Disabling that setting didn't fix the problem.
EDIT2: Disabled the Proximity Sensor option as well and that fixed the issue. Does this mean my screen is ALWAYS on during a call now? Or just when receiving one?
