Not really I'm afraid. There are dozens of ROMs for Desire out there, some are for Froyo and some are for Gingerbread, some are based on Sense and some are based on AOSP and some are a hybrid, but each are doing something a bit different. You'll like some and not others. It's all personal preference. You'll find a few really popular ones, the ones many of the folks here are using (LeeDroid, Defrost, MIUI, GingerVillain, Cyanogen Nightlies, RUU (stock ROM)...), but that's not to say they're the best or that you shouldn't try others. The beauty of being rooted is that it takes 10 minutes to change a ROM so you can chop and change to your heart's content. Keep trying until you find something you like.
Two suggestions:
1) For an idea of what's out there, have a look at Android Candy (Android Candy: HTC Desire Custom ROM List). The list is not up to date, but the links will take you to the most up to date versions.
2) Once you find a ROM you like, ask on here what kernels and settings folks are using so that you can get the best out of your ROM.
