Root Root Question

TealCubes

Newbie
My phone is an original Droid, I have had it for 3 years or so. (Ver 2.2.3)

I have been thinking about rooting it.

One reason would be to remove all the stock apps I do not need.

Calculator (I have downloaded a better one)
Car Home (I am too young to drive)
Local (Don't even know what this is.)
Twitter (Don't use, and app sucks)
Voice Dialer (Never even opened this app after having my phone for years)
Voice Search (Easier to just type it in...)

Another reason would be that I have Photoshop, and like playing around with it; and I like custom things.

When my phone starts up, it has the 'M' image and then the little animation with that red thing. Whatever that is supposed to be.
If my phone was rooted, could I find and edit the 'M' start up image to be a custom image, or even create my own animation instead of the red thing.
Could I find and edit the images for the icons like the main three at the bottom of the screen?
Could I change the look of the 'pass-code dots'?

I know a little C++, and I have created some console games, as well as knowing HTML and some CSS (I have created a website) but I don't want to learn a new language or risk my sketchy programming skills on my phone. Could I still play around with stuff using images on a rooted phone?

I know there is the possibility of bricking your phone, but my phone is years old, and I'm sure it's out of warranty anyway. I would not try this on a new Galaxy S3. :p

This is totally new to me...

Thanks for reading my post, and I would be overjoyed to get some responses.

EDIT: If you think it would we worth rooting my phone, could you point me in the right direction?

Rooting the OG Droid was easy. Unlocked bootloader. Definitely worth it. If you need help, let me know. Can change everything, from fonts, icons, loading images, etc....I think the z4 root (one touch) may even work.

Thanks!

I am not sure what bootloader or z4 actually is.

Where would I start? Do you end up downloading an exe that does it for you or dragging new files onto your device?

My questions probly sound dumb. I have never done anything like this before.

Thanks again.

And I am very late to this party. The Motorola "M" you see is the boot logo, waht you see after that is the boot animation.

I have a ton of guides to be found in the link in my sig that might help you out.

good luck
