Root Rooting problem dead android when selecting recovery

I have been trying to root for a few hours and completed all the steps on several different roots since upon completion not of them gave me root access. A problem i am having now is i get a dead android with a red triangle and a "!" over him. it happens when i get to the system recovery... when i select it thats what i get and i can't go any further.

Any help would be great i have looked around and looked for solutions but i seem to be stuck.
