Running Super Slow

Hi All,

new here. I find my phone is often super super slow. I have 3GB of 13Gb available. I usually use opening Settings/Apps/Running as a good test, where it's about 7secs when at its best. Sometimes can be 20-30secs. When I go into Settings/Apps/Running it shows 607MB used, 89MB available. But if I calculate all the running apps memory total, it's about 280-300MB. Shutting down some apps frees it up, but only for a very limited time, before it's back to being super slow. I use the Fast Reboot, App Cache (currently showing 174.6MB) and Auto Memory Manager apps., but they only alleviate issue for a short while too. Any suggestions on how to further troubleshoot this, or am I just stuck with it? Thanks.

One thing with the Galaxy Nexus is that sometimes I found mine to be running well, at other times it would run like crap.

A lot of times I just had to do a simple reboot and it would fix those bad problems, most of the time.

If you are looking for leaps in performance then you might want to consider rooting your device :). It opens up a whole new world.

I use Fast Reboot rather than rebooting manually.

Ok what I've done, is disabled auto-synch for everything and will monitor for a week. I will then enable apps individually for synching. I also copied all pics/videos/music to my PC, freeing 7GB, just to see if that helps.

BTW, how does "rooting" my phone improve performance?

First off it will remove all that unnecessary bloat on your device, which will free up processes and space on your phone.

You can perform system tweaks and acquire a new Kernel, which is how the software reacts with the hardware, tweaking this can cause huge performance increases.

I had heard that rooting can create issues if you "brick" your phone, you're not covered for warranty. In saying that, I'm over my 2yr warranty period anyway, so guess it's not gonna be an issue.

:);):D

Update

Since disabling auto-sync, I've seen a huge improvement in performance, this incl even after re-installing all the videos I took off the phone. I haven't as yet, re-enabled auto-syncing, but will over the next week, enable individual apps to do so and see what happens.
