When writing with the S Pen it automatically separates words incorrectly (see Background below). When writing with the keyboard this doesn't happen. I've set keyboard (which seems to affect handwriting as well) Smart typing Predictive text to On and Auto replacement to Off. Tried to set Predictive text to Off but it doesn't - and shouldn't - affect this issue.
