Sad News about Iain Banks

Iain Banks, author of awesome novels such as The Wasp Factory, The Bridge, and the SF novels set in his Culture milieu (The Player of Games, Use of Weapons) has been diagnosed with cancer and is predicting he has less than a year to live.

Yeah - I heard about that: very sad. Great writer and such a great sense of humour.

Wow that's awful. I hadn't heard...very sad news indeed.

Iain's death was announced this morning.

Very sad - and only 2 months after the announcement.

A mark of the man: after the news that his illness was terminal he proposed to his long time girlfriend with the words "Would you do me the great honour of becoming my widow?"

Very sad that such a horrible illness can end a life so quick. The Culture books he wrote are an amazing imaginative place to lose yourself. RIP
