Samsung Galaxy Player 2

The original Galaxy Player series was not hugely popular, but if the revamped version sports some better specs, it may be able to compete more directly with Apple's popular iPod Touch.

I think one of the key factors in the SGP's 'failure' is true of many Samsung phones as well... inconsistent dimensions and lack of accessories. Apple have the market sown up with their brand and marketing but they also offer devices that are consistently compatible with existing accessories making it much easier for the consumer to find something that fits and for third party manufacturers to make just a single range of products that everyone will be able to use (rather than going to the expense of making covers for a the 4.0, the 5.0, the 3.8... and then all the phone varieties)

For anyone new to the market, the SGP 4.0 was pretty much an equivalent product to the iPod Touch with pros and cons on each side. Rather than expanding the range with bigger, smaller and really smaller versions, they should have stuck with the same physical formal and just worked on the tech inside. Alternatively they should have based it precisely on a Galaxy phone casing to share the accessories that way.

That said, I'm pleased to see that the range might not be as dead as previously indicated. I wasn't panicking because I'm sure my 4.0 has many years of life left in it but it's reassuring to think that when it does finally go pop there is still a chance that it can be replaced with something similar. But technology changes all the time, so who knows what will be around then.

I think lack of marketing is also to blame for it's lack of sales. My mum got a 5.0 and got rid of her i pod touch after seeing and using mine.
shame for me as 5 to 5.5 inches is my perfect size, really don't want a 4 inch version.

See.....this size (4") is the very reason I don't use an iPhone.
IMO, if Samsung really wanted the player market to take off they should make them in the exact same size as their phones without cellular connectivity. A 5.5" player would've been ideal!
