Help Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 5.0 has died?

I bought my Dad a Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 5.0 for Christmas. Less than three weeks later it suddenly closed down while he was using it. He was playing a track and adding it to a playlist when the track got stuck and kept repeating one note, and the device got quite hot. Then it shut down and he hasn't been able to turn it on since. We've tried recharging and pressing and holding the power button but no joy. I think it's probably dead myself and will try Samsung phone support tomorrow, but thought I'd ask here in case anyone has any fixes I could try.

I can't do a hard reset as the device needs to be switched on to do that.

Thanks.

I'm sorry to hear about this. I haven't heard of any other SGP5s failing like that.

I don't have any tips to bring it back to life, but I do think it's a hardware malfunction. Sounds like a chip failed and burned out. If I were you, I'd go for a warranty replacement from Samsung.

You were right. Have been in touch with Samsung (not a pleasant experience) and they said the device needs repair. They referred me back to Amazon, who sold it to me in the first place, and Amazon are sending out a brand new replacement. :)
