Help Screen scratch

I have a HTC One V. My screen has randomly gotten a scratch on it. The other day I had sand paper in my pocket and and I put my phone in my pocket not thinking about it. After that I got a bunch of little scratches on it. Today I put it in my pocket. My pocket was empty and I got a big scratch going from top to bottom. The middle of the phone has deeper scratch but it doesn't look that bad. It kinda looks like its cracked but I don't know how that happened. I've tried toothpaste but that didn't work. Any suggestions?

It's scratched unfortunately, there's not much you can do about it other than get a new screen, sorry.

Unfortunately, no.
But, I ordered a BestSkinsEver screen cover to help prevent it from getting any worse since I can't remove the scratch. Will the screen cover help cover the scratch?
