Help [Solved] How to fix sort order in Nexus 4 stock phone app????

In M$ Windows in folders and in my BlackBerry in the phone app, when sorting, the folders or names, etc., get sorted alphanumerically, yes, but also numbers go before letters - like this: 0 - 9, A-Z.

I've entered every name in the same sub-field under "Last Name" and like I have always done, have added a "0- " in front of certain entries that need to always appear at the top. But I get the odd and undesired sort order of: A-Z, 0-9

The stock phone app in my Nexus 4 is the first time I've seen the numbers be sorted below all the other items.

How can I get the normal and standard "0 - 9, A-Z" sort order in the stock Android phone app on my Nexus 4, please?

You can't change the sort order as far as I know, but the underscore ("_") counts as a letter that comes before "A", so if you want things at the top of the list use an underscore prefix like I do.

"_Name" looks much better in the list than "0-Name" anyway :-)

moved this to the nexus 4 forums for better help with folks who have your phone. i do not have your device so i can't be of much help. hopefully others here can help you with the sort order.

Thanks! I will give this a try. Well, your comment is subjective - I've been using that naming convention for years and it doesn't matter to me as much as the sort order . To each their own, I guess ... Thx!

Just wanted to report back that this does work. It's ugly because I ran into problems in that numbers still don't get sorted properly (in the case where the name has a number in it - i.e., like one of several entries I have - "7-11" which happens to be my postal outlet - but at least the other items sort properly.

I like the stock contacts app well enough but since this naming convention only gets around half the problem, will have to look for a contact app that does order things 0-9, then A-Z.

But thanks for this.

Cheers.
