Help Something to do with an update? Screwy

There's some update that is screwing up my phone. I noticed about a week or two ago when I slid to unlock it did some sort of new weird thing where it would blink and do a camera click. It also had a new option of going to a widget if you slid to the right or left. Then just today it got even MORE screwy and now when I press the side button I get an all black screen. The bottom three buttons come up and the top bar comes up. I can slide the top bar down and it comes up fine. But the bottom buttons do not work. To to a functional screen I have to fiddle with the side and home button a bit until I get to the apps screen. I tried to change the setting so I have no slide feature and there is no unlock feature - but still no luck. All other functions on the phone are fine, no issues with the apps or anything.

I am do for an upgrade but holding out for the S5. Steps I've taken:

~ cleaned out cache
~ taken battery out of the back (several times)
~ powered off
~ removed and put sim card back in

Still having the issue. Once its unlocked everything operates smoothly...just getting the phone to "open" is a pain.

Since you said you have a sim try:
1) backup your data from /sdcard
2) Go to google, download, and install system images
3) Restore data, reroot, and profit.

Some [OTA] updates don't fully install if you've installed a custom recovery [cwm, twrp] which most [including myself] do switch out. Keep a copy of the factory recovery for future OTAs is a good practice; however, Google has stated no kk [so probably won't be getting any]. This can lead to such oddball behavior. Hope that helps.

Regards,
Rob

Thanks. I am going to try that. I DID just recently have to get a "new" phone because my last one was acting weird too (but found out it wasn't the phone, it was a setting that was not clicked. So I don't have THAT much on there that needs to be backed up if I do need to reset everything. But it still be a PITA
