[Sprint] RAM oddity

galaxy nexus....

the phone has 1 gb of RAM.

i installed a custom rom, cm11...might be a nightly, i forget. anyway, in "about phone" in settings, I am now showing only 694 mb of RAM, and a few other diagnostic tools that i have are showing the same.

and quite frankly i believe it, as the phone is stuttering on the simplest of games...chess!

can someone explain this? i've never seen a custom rom have this effect, and i'm curious as to what is going on before i revert to stock.

edit: at the same time, i flashed the franco kernel. so one or the other, or a combo of the two, seems to be at issue.

I would redo and just install the ROM and check and see what you are getting RAM is usually handled by the kernel so if the ROM proves ok then its the Kernel

For future references though I never flash a rom and kernel at the same time this is so its easier to see what may be causing issues if they arise. The only time I double flash something is when I use PA or CM and need to install gapps with it.

I suggest Argedion's suggestion.

Also if you provide me with your carrier information we could move this thread to the appropriate Galaxy Nexus Root Forum and they might be able to assist you further.

it's a sprint phone. sorry about posting here, but i thought this was more of a rom issue than a specific device issue.

its all good!

you were fine posting here its just with the experience our staff has they find it easier to post things more device specific when possible so that people looking for answers to those issues can find them more easily.

While it could be a ROM issue it is very possible that even though that ROM can be multidevice each device handles them differently. So where an Optimus may run smooth with no issues there maybe reports of the S4 having some.

Are you sure there's anything wrong with the RAM numbers? It could just be showing what's left after part has been reserved for the OS, which is common practice (e.g. my HTC One has 2GB but always shows 1.7GB).

You're fine :)

I have moved this to the Spring Galaxy Nexus Root Forum though.

Hopefully this will assist with your issue and getting it resolved.

no i am not sure. how would one tell? i have to admit, a day later, i cannot assuredly state that the ram numbers showing previously were any different. it is just that in the several years that i've had the gnex, i would have thought that i'd have noticed the number.

so, i reflashed stock. still showing 694mb. then i flashed a different rom, and it is still 694.

so i guess you are right?
