The steps that follow require root!!
1. After rooting, install Xposed framework and reboot.
2. Open up Xposed and navigate to downloads
3.Find these modules : obb on sd, downloads2SD
4. Get Titanium backup or something similar to remove unneeded system bloatware. (Make backups!! You have been warned)
5. Get CCleaner or something similar to remove cache files and ancillary temp files. (No root needed)
6. Go into recovery and wipe dalvik/cache.
7. Get Secure Wipe, will wipe all free space on internal memory (do not wipe system and internal at the same time, they occupy the same space, only clean one at a time otherwise conflicts). This would be your last step. (No root needed)
The first Xposed module allows you to put all obb files on the SD card.
The second Xposed module allows you to move your music, podcasts, ringtones, alarms, notifications, pictures, movies, downloads, and DCIM files to the SD card.
Now remember any needed app that is removed should be replaced with acceptable alternative. Look and see what permissions you are allowing an app to have. And to tame your apps even further, I use My Android Tools. With this app you will be able to enable/disable services, activities, broadcast receivers, content providers, database and more!

I have been using my Tribute with the above performed steps for the last 3 months without a single issue. If your needing to slim down your GApps package, take a look at this http://forum.xda-developers.com/group.php?do=discuss&group=&discussionid=3787. I use the Pico package, has just the need components. EDIT: I use Nano package so I can use voice search/2text
