Supersonic subs look to cross the Pacific in under two hours

how can I take them seriously?? when they write articles like that?

a sub big enough to carry people... traveling over 3k mph.. through water!!!
a small boat traveling 100mph.. creates a huge wave and splash zone on top of the water.. I cant imagine through water at 500mph.
how much power must it push?
how strong must the walls be?
how much water will it displace and throw?
how much water life will it kill?
how much environment damage?


just plain stupid!

As the update at the bottom of that page notes, it's all theoretical at this point. It won't be happening any time soon.

Good thing, too. Just think about how tsunamis form, miles down, beneath the ocean's floor, when earthquakes occur. The water from tsunamis can easily travel at 500mph--and look at the destruction that causes. So this supersonic submarine idea needs a LOT of thought before it goes into production.

yes.. i know it is all just ideas... but just silly to even try to do. destructive and wasteful

Supercavitation should work. It makes the water less dense. You could do an experiment to prove it to yourself using 2 glasses of water, An Alka-Seltzer, and 2 weights of the same size. The weight dropped into the water with the Alka-Seltzer fizzing will hit the bottom faster.

of course the concept has merit. but you still have to displace the same amount of water in front of the moving object .. at over 3K mph.. same results. havoc and destruction and polution
