Sudden auto restart after Kitkat 4.4.4 upgrade

I got the latest upgrade a couple of days ago, and a small patch yesterday (I guess it was a patch due to its small size), since the upgrade I observed at least 2 auto restarts during normal operation (I ignore restarts that eventually occurred at night) , this thing never happened with my 2012 Nexus 7.

i've noticed all kinds of wiggy behavior with the update myself. just switched over to a custom rom, and all is good.

I have another thread on my experiences, but in summary I am having huge battery drain and unusual heat coming from the bottom left. If I am going to have to factory refresh anyway, what are the best ROMs?
