Root Support Rooted T-Mobile SGH-T959V

I have a Samsung Galaxy S 4G
Model SGH-T959V
Firmware Ver. 2.3.6
Baseband Ver. T959VUVKJ6
Kernel Ver. 2.6.35.7-T959VUVKJ6-CL694130
Build Number GINGERBREAD.VUVKJ6

Stock phone has very low system memory. I destroyed my 8gig sd-card trying to create a second partition that the phone could use. My phone was not rooted at the time..I kinda missed that part

Bought a New 8 gig sd-card

I followed instructions to Root the phone with SuperOneClick...successfully. I installed Link2SD on the phone...successfully. I Downloaded Mini Partition Tool to laptop. I created the second partition several ways. Phone could only see a second fat32 Primary partition...it didn't like any of the Ext partitions. But Now I have about 1 gig on the second partition, and link2sd sees it, and writes to it.

Then I got crazy...I looked around and started to install a bunch of stuff. Some useful, maybe. EX., Superuser, upgraded to Elite, Got Recovery Manager, Titanium Back-up, Rom Manager, Rom Customizer, BusyBox free, Rom Toolbox free from Google Play App store

Everything installed ok...but I can't flash anything. If Ifollow steps to install boot animations, it says "installed successfully" But, it doesn't really install it. I get the error mentioned below when I reboot (Failed to verify whole-file signature) One of the programs I have --Root Toolbox--allows me to change fonts, but not by flashing...I don't get it

I try to open zip folders from ROM Manager-- Rom Management--Install ROM from SD card and getError: failed to verify whole-file signature, install aborted.

I have missed something important...
I think I have an oddball Galaxy S 4G...
I am thinking that I am not using the correct Applications.
I know nothing about this, hopefully any answers will be simply explained. Thanks!

I would suggest against using ROM manager with Samsung's as it can cause all sorts of problems. If you have a custom recovery try booting into that and flashing the files manually. If still no joy there should be an option in custom recoveries to toggle signature verification on and off (possibly in advanced) so turn it off and try again.

Hiya snecker.

Is your only concern at this point installing a custom boot animation? All those "tool boxes" and "tool kits" are doing for you is replacing your original /system/media/bootanimation.zip with a new one which gets read into the /system/bin folder at bootup. That error you're getting makes me think that either the permissions for the new file aren't set right (Should be 533 or rw-r--r--) or that the file isn't the right format or corrupt.

I also agree with shotgun, you should stay away from ROM manager on Samsung phones. It has a tendency to mess up recovery partitions.

I am thinking I need a custom recovery. Do you have a link to the right one. Thanks for your reply.

I thought it did, but maybe not...how can i be sure?

With the device totally off, as in powered down, push and hold the home then the volume up buttons, then the power button. All three are held down now.
When the screen comes on, then let go of the buttons.
That will be your recovery screen. It should say, perhaps, CWM (clockworkmod) or TWRP or something like that. Those are custom recoveries. :)

Ok, i'll lose the rom manager. I had noticed a few people saying that. I am thinking that i do not have a custom recovery, hw can i tell? Can you give me a link to getting it? I don't have Odin. Thanks!

Hi, thanks for the reply. I'll take your advice on uninstalling rom manager. Several people said that in threads i read. I am interested in the boot animations, but i think maybe i don't have a custom recovery. I would love to know where to get one for this phone, or find out if one was installed with super one click. How can i tell?

Ok, I tried your instructions 3 times, but it just loads normally. Do you mean the boot options? If so, I am not seeing the cwm or twrp option. It says android recovery <3> samsung recovery, and then wipe, clear cache, restore to factory, etc

Geez I hope that didn't sound snotty. On my phone i have to hold vol up/down and power to get to that screen.

I have uninstalled Recovery Manager, as suggested by everyone. It looks like I have no custom recovery installed. Can i install a custom recovery without rerooting? If so, where do i get it? Thank you?

That doesn't sound like custom recovery. It sounds like stock ... so, this is a fairly easy tutorial for getting CWM on your t989

Not at all. :)

Hi. I am confused abut the t989. My model number is sgh-t959v. Are they the same? Also, unlike most, kies mini is working for me. I do not have odin. Do i have to install odin?

My mistake, I thought you had the Galaxy S2 from T-Mobile, but the 959V is the Galaxy S ... let me do a little more looking for the right files (Don't use the ones for the S2).

I can't tell you how much I appreciate this help...At least now i have a little.hope

You are correct, Mike. The list of forums has this under Galaxy S4 not S 4G ... going to see an Admin about this. In the mean time, thread moved.

N/M ... was looking at the forum above. I think my brain is somewhere between scrambled eggs and toast today. Get me some OJ and we've got breakfast. :o

No worries :)
At this point, we are trying to get a custom recovery installed on your device correct?
And, at this point, is your phone functioning correctly?

Doing a brief search here and there, it appears in order to get a custom recovery on your device, a kernel needs to be installed but I cannot verify that yet.
