Curious. I've seen this when I've reset a phone, restored the messages and then phonebook, but a reboot generally fixes it. Have you tried just rebooting the phone?
There's a thread here where other people reported similar things on various different phones at different times, and some of the things they tried. It seems that different things worked for different people, so it was probably not a single problem but different things with the same symptom.
