A couple weeks ago I was getting low memory warnings. Trying to remove as many apps as i could to keep the OV running. Thinking it was time to throw in the towel and get a new phone.

I read the posts. Got some good tips from AndyOpie. Rooted, installed BackSide ROM which was nice, but locked-up daily. Installed the MiRaGe ROM, which is smooth and reliable as a 1968 Chevy V8! Today I got my 16 GB SD. Partitioned a 2 GB ext4. Installed Link2SD. Linked a bunch of large apps. Now I have 92 apps, no memory issues, no bloatware.

It totally ROCKS!!!

Weather app there is "Eye in the sky", a real piece of art. Don't laugh at the temperatures, we like it that way in Minnesota, at least that's what we tell ourselves. Thanks for all the help folks... I couldn't have done it withoutcha!

Glad we could help.

Note: Northern Nevada, summer was 115°, winter of 1988-89 (if memory is correct) was -43°. Breaking ice over creek so the cattle could drink was no fun. Open stack yards and tractors. Brrrr.

Heatwave compared to what we've been dealing with in New England...although not too bad today! Might actually get to 35 degrees...break out the grill and beer! Actually temps have probably been about the same as out by you.

It's amazing how much the stock ROM sucks on these V's...I was shocked at much better my V ran with a custom ROM. Not talking about a minor improvement, but so much of an improvement I thought had gotten a new phone!!!

Anyone still trying to get by with these V's on stock ROM's really should take the plunge and upgrade to a custom ROM...you'll be thankful you did!

If you want, try Launcher 8. It's a Windows Phone 8 style of launcher.
Just got done setting everything up and it's pretty neat.
Set up a bunch of folders for different types of apps (ie: connection apps, system changing apps, app that go onto internet, app management apps, etc.). They flip, and reveal a different app that's in it each flip.
You can add photos to the Gallery widget, which then display them on a rotating basis.
You can add Widgets, apps, or folders.
As you add, everything is added below everything else, but you can easily move where you want.
The View is actually a seamless scroll up and down.

Looks pretty sweet Andy, it's about time you showed us what you got! "just kidding "

Really that's a pretty cool setup, but how do you think the battery will handle it?

Just installed it today. Will let you know in a couple of days.
Note:The app drawer is actually to the right of the Home screen. This is not my work, just something I stumbled upon while browsing the market for launchers.
Edit: Added black background by taking picture in dark room with finger over camera lenses. Really makes everything pop better.

Sorry, I almost forgot.
I noticed no difference when using internet.
Screen off phone near bed. Wake up and there is a 3-4% drop in battery power.
Not bad at all.

It's in the PlayStore under: Launcher 8

Thanks Andy! I am going to get the zengarden recovery and the new mandylion installed on my wife's V tonight and I will add the windows 8 theme.

Note: I'm using the ROCK SOLID MiRaGe ROM with Launcher 8.
Have it, my old favorite Lancher Pro with a totally deep all over blue theme, and a bare bones MiRaGe (for trying out UCCW home screen skins) backed up.
I've also been playing with the Paranoid Android ROM by "the kraven". It has an option which allows you to put soft keys on the phones screen(great for those with physical buttons that are going south). Menu, Home, and Back.

That's great Andy, can definitely live with that!

On another note, i'm still having problems ...i don't see any screenshots in this thread, just blue question marks. Can't figure this out, i can see them with tapatalk.

Looks like it's time to move on from the backside, i think i'll flash the Mirage rom this weekend, i just hate to loose the themes i had from DHOT!

I would flash Mirage tonight but still trying to shake this nasty flu bug, been sick as a dog.

I have not been able to be active here much in the last six months... family issues, and that will likely continue...

But I saw this thread title and just wanted to jump in and also add my genuine thanks to Andy and ben and brotherswing and all the other gurus on this forum who have helped me so much set up and learn my phone, and who write the tutorials. (sorry I'm forgetting names...getting old, lol) You guys give your time to help many people and are awesome, thanks!

Wish the best for your family issues...those are always tough to go through, but we've all had them at one time or another, so you're not alone. Hope things work out for you soon.

Doesn't it figure - just a couple months after getting my Optimus V running like a champ on MiRaGe, I've gone and replaced it with another phone (an LG Marquee, on Ting). For me, Ting works out to be even lower cost service than the $25/mo VM plan, if you can believe that.

Anyway, I just wanted to say good bye & thanks again to everybody here. I'm sorry not have stayed around long enough to make much of a contribution to the wealth of knowledge that's in these posts, but I've sure read and learned a lot here, for which I'm grateful!

I'm unable to post on the "Classifieds" forum (it says "you don't have permission"), but I've got two LG Optimus Vs that are grandfathered, and active until April 4 and they're available, please let me know if you're interested.

Good luck to everybody in the Optimus V land --- I hope the development keeps going and you're all running 100% solid ICS or JB in the near future!
