Again, science and religion are NOT mutually exclusive.

Faith is personal, no two people have the same faith. Now, numbers, logic, reasoning, etc. can be shared between people. Do you see the difference here? Your faith is not the same as your neighbor's faith, but the numbers that are used to calculate your electricity or water usage are the same. That is why people debate topics. You try to sway the other side with logic, hoping that you made your case clear and concise to the point that they cannot discredit the logic you used to arrive at your conclusion.

Proof is faith? Don't you know the definition of "faith" is "belief without proof." So that comment alone is inheritably flawed.

Science requires evidence, testing, deductive reasoning, experimentation to prove things to be true, where religion requires Nothing but a belief. Science based on its method is why we have progress in society, clean water, electronics, and everything else. Religion...nothing. So how can a proven method be BS?
Religion is the void of logic, proof, evidence, and reasoning. Now how can that really benefit mankind? You think its okay to raise children to be ignorant to facts and reason? Religion is a causation of many problems, not including inherit ignorance, but actually slows the progress of mankind based on a belief system. It really sucks when a belief system halts or slows science which can benefit millions of people. It's frankly mind boggling yet you choose to turn your head and believe in fairy tales, then to admit it is worse and even scary.

There was a reason and there was a guy, but he wasn't looking for a laugh, he was looking to consolidate his power. His name was Constantine, emperor of rome. It was he who declared christianity the official religion of the empire and used it to try and bring a huge multicultural empire under his control. he used the council of nicea to codify it and to create an official religious text (ie. the bible). It was under his guidance that many specific books or variants of stories from early christian tradition where included or left out of the officially sanctioned tome.

because one is verifiable and can be replicated independently. the other, well... not so much.

Someone who is a void of all logic and reasoning to believe in a made up concept is a good thing? You really think that way of thinking benefits this planet? You are right about one thing, we need to focus on actual events in the world, not focus on fairy tales which impede our progress. Religion is not the creator of all the problems in the world but is a causation for many problems. A FACT you cannot deny.

I'll make sure to pass that along to the archbishop the next time he's over at my parents for dinner. Yes, he's one of their regular guests.

As for my mom, she's like freaking dougie howser numbnitz. Had a doctorate by the time she was 22, became a petroleum chemical engineer and ran her own lab at a time when most women weren't even allowed to own property. She is now retired and spends her time teaching and contributing to her schools, church and community.

But hey, as usual you have nothing of value to say so you spew out insults. Your god must be loving having a dumbass like you as a representative.

There might be aliens abducting cows, there might be floating teapots circling the earth, there might be a zombie army waiting to take over the world, there might be a bigfoot, RA an Egyptian god might be real. Might is not a strong defense, only expresses a possibility. In your mind anything is possible. Now prove it's plausible and real, then maybe you have an argument. So far nothing over the hundreds of years religion and Christianity have been in existence. Funny you choose one god out of the thousands in history, all in which share the same amount of evidence, ZERO.

Nah, she's really old school in that regard. Sadly she wasn't old school when it came to sex ed and instead subscribed to the Dr. Ruth school of frankness. Nothing wrong with that, but in your early teens it's rather disturbing to hear clinical locker room talk from your mom. My ears, my ears!!!

Haha, tell me about it. My mom works as a nurse in the Labor & Delivery ward of the hospital. Like your mom, she was quite frank when it came to that type of talk. That's probably the single most effective form of birth control that I know of. :eek: Out of four children my mom only has grand-kids from one of us, and it ain't me. :D

Arguing religion is like arguing politics. No matter what you say, no matter how it is documented, you cannot make someone believe something that they don't want to believe.
For the record, I believe in God, by things that have happened that made it clear to me. Some would call that coincidence.
Also, historically, nearly every religion has committed what many would call atrocities. That does not mean that God does not exist. It means that God has allowed them to have their own free choice to do what they want, similar to Adam and Eve eating the fruit in the garden.

No. You're wrong. I would believe in God if there's evidence for his existence. I would believe ANYTHING for which there is sufficient evidence.

In the case of the Judeo-Christian God, he's just ridiculously obviously made up (on top of having no evidence).

It's not my religion or ideology to deny the existence of God. It's my opinion, based on the presented information.

It cracks me up that they're willing to write volumes poking holes in scientific evidence, but then they turn around and believe a donkey spoke, a magic wand turned into a snake, and a man split the sea.

So Evolution has to be rejected because they found so-called "gaps", but all their ridiculous kids fairy tales they accept on blind faith.
 
Remember that the Bible was not written by one author. Instead a bunch of Bishops got together - known as the Council of Nicea - and decided which books to include. They decided to only include those books that portrayed Christianity in a light that was in line with their own interests.

People like this OP really need to read all the other books so as to really understand. There are many more gospels than the four we are accustomed to.

My favorite in all this is the belief that we all are decedents of Adam and Eve. If that is the case there must have been a whole lot of incest going on.

No wonder there are so many stupid people in the world...:eek:

Actually, since there doesn't appear to be any sort of reasonable discussion going on here at all, I'm just going to leave this closed permanently. The only reason I am not going to delete the whole thing is to have some future reference for how NOT to behave on this forum. In all honesty, there are a bunch of posts in here that deserve infractions for personal attacks and or disrespectful posting. You all know about the rules and zero tolerance policy that this forum has, but none of that seemed to matter in this thread.

Let this be a warning for those of you that posted in this thread. If I see this type of thing again you will receive at minimum a 3 day ban. This is not welcome here and you all know it.
