titanium backup

I am stock rooted and want to use Titanium Backup to backup my contacts, sms, and other files so that when I install a custom ROM I can import these back in using TB. I attempted a backup with the option "all user apps" and when I restored this with the custom ROM, no contacts, sms, etc was there. Plus, I get the message that my Android ID has been changed - keep new ID, restore previous ID, or ask later.

What option(s) do I need in order to backup contacts, messages, emails, etc so that I can restore later???

Are your contact not Google?

Best way for sms is sms backup+. I use this in conjunction with titanium. Titanium is messy.

Recommend Google for contacts. Email recommend manual setup

I have a Google account but not a gmail account. I tried logging into the Google account just now and it wants me to create a gmail account. I don't use gmail so I didn't create one. Do I need to create a gmail account and have them sync that way?

just create the account and never use it...the contacts sync automatically...its not like you ever even need to sign into the gmail account...

Its the best way. Sms backup+ will sync sms there too.
Done...created the account and looking into SMS backup+. If I load a new ROM, can SMS backup+ then import the backed up SMS files from gmail and restore them on the phone?

i would imagine so...other backup apps ive used work fine...

very true. ;)
its just so easy...especially for rooted users that like to flash custom ROMs...we do data wipes/factory resets all the time...its so nice to not even have to worry about your contacts...they are always just there when the phone boots up...

funny story...i had a wonky issue with my original SGS3 that was having problems auto switching between WiFi/4G/3G...most of the time it would not pick up 4G on its own and i would have to reboot or toggle airplane mode...so i swapped it for a new one...

well im sitting there and the salesman at the store boots up my phone and is going through some things to make sure its right...and he is like "what is your my verizon pin, so i can restore your contacts for you?" I just laughed...i said "no idea...ive never used my verizon." and he looked at me cross eyed...

i just looked at him and said "google will sync them as soon as i sign in to my account on the phone..." he was literally floored that someone knew how to do that lol...

Account created, contacts and SMS are now backed up there...think I'll leave it at that instead of trying Titanium Backup.

Also, when I was first looking at the SG3, I had to tell the salesman that the US version was *not* quad core. He insisted it was, until he looked it up. :D

Titanium is good so long as you only restore user apps. Although if you can live without - do. The cleaner the install, the fewer errors later on

i was in my local sprint store a looking for floor models to test drive, and the guy there didnt know the difference either. imagine, all these carrier employees across the country spewing misinformation to their customers  though the majority of the people that dont already know the difference probably wont care anyway lol
