whats the best way to back up my SGS2 before i do an update to ICS?

i have my apps in folders now and am wondering if they will be deleted or stay the same after the update?
how about widget settings etc, does all that stuff stay the same?

anything else i should check before doing the update?

i'm in sweden and an update is available if i go into software update but want to check here first for some advice, thanks!

When I updated the apps were still there but not where they were i.e. back under the applications tab. Widgets also disappeared but were still on the phone. Some apps lost their data as well.

so basically a good backup of all game data, sms, contacts etc is needed

PLUS

u need to put up your homescreens again with whatever was on them, ie, widgets and settings.

seems a bit much, why can't they just load your old stuff again :(

Because its a very big change. Updating from 2.3.3 to 2.3.x does not require you to lose your stuff, but jumping version to 4.0x does. Its like jumping from Windows XP to Windows 7 I guess. Its the same with IPhone when jumping from IOS 4.x to IOS 5.x

Can't be helped. They did try to keep it so it does not require a full wipe, but I believe you will hear of may issues without a factory reset. Its one of the reason why I might not update to ICS.

Cheers
