Total Freeze Razr Maxx HD!! How to reset?

I was downloading an update to a few apps when my phone suddenly froze totally. Can't turn it off or back on. Completely non responsive. This is my only phone so I am trying to find out how to do a hard reset or something similar.
Wish I knew what to do.

ALL advice is greatly appreciated!
 
Hello and welcome to the forums. I see your android device is having problems . Can i ask have you ever rooted or moded this device .

Thanks. I have never rooted the phone. Sometimes I wonder if I should ever try it.
 
Your question is in the right place then.

Do any of the buttons operate?
Does touching the screen get a response?
Have you ever connected to a PC with a USB cable?

What was so strange about this is that I kept trying holding down both buttons with no result. The screen didn't respond.
Suddenly it worked.
I tried to connect via USB cable to PC but no good there.
 
So ... if I follow what you are saying ... none of the buttons do anything ... touching the screen does nothing ... swiping down from the top of the screen does nothing ... if you connect to a PC the PC cannot see it.

Do I have it straight?

If I do then I am flat out of ideas.
