Transparent or translucent Genie Widget in unrooted 2.2: possible?

Hi all,

I've been looking for a transparent or translucent Genie widget (news & weather) to replace the original one that came with Froyo.

So far I have found some apk's, but I can't install them. First there is a warning of system app substitution, I proceed installing, then I get a "app not installed" message.

Do I have to root my Desire to get it installed?

You will need to be rooted for this as you need access to system/apps to remove the old one via adb and then push the new one.

I have it on mine and it looks so much better.
